  • Publication number: 20050279046
Abstract: A concrete block structure useful in forming a retaining wall having upwardly open openings to facilitate planting plants therein. The block has an upright front wall, laterally spaced side walls joined to the front wall, and an upwardly open interior, the side walls having upwardly open and laterally aligned grooves formed in them, and a rod received within the grooves and protruding laterally beyond each side wall. A flexible anchor sheet having a forward edge portion may extend along and above at least two adjacent blocks of the course, the anchor sheet being attached to the rod and extending rearwardly over an upper surface of the rear wall for anchoring reception in an embankment against which the blocks are placed.

  • Patent number: 6792731
Abstract: A stablized retaining wall structure comprising concrete blocks stacked in an array of superimposed rows, and with a stable anchoring assembly being in restraining contact with selected blocks. A retainer detent extends from the top surface of a wall of the block between the outer surface of the block and the hollow core. An earthen fill zone is arranged in spaced apart relationship to the rear surface of the retaining wall and clean granular back-fill is interposed between the retaining wall and the earthen fill zone. A retainer device is provided to couple selected wall blocks to a remote stable anchoring assembly, with the retainer device being configured to be restrainably held within the hollow core. One end of an elongated fastener is coupled to the retainer device, with the fastener extending outwardly through the retainer detent and secured to the remote stable anchoring assembly.

  • Publication number: 20030041546
Abstract: A wall block arranged to be stacked vertically for creation of a retaining wall, the block being of generally trapezoidal configuration having parallelly arranged front and rear surfaces along with opposed top and bottom surfaces. The top surface has front and rear lips formed thereon with each of the lips having a trapezoidal root portion with mutually opposed triangular portions converging inwardly therefrom to define opposed and aligned front and rear apices. In one embodiment, the apices are disposed midway along the length of the block, while in a second embodiment, the apices are formed at the juncture point of mated pairs of blocks. The bottom surface of the block includes a central base with opposed notches formed along the front and rear edges of the bottom surface, with the base having a trapezoidal configuration with a width dimension which is no greater than the spacing between the opposed aligned front and rear apices.

  • Patent number: 5623797
Abstract: Interlocking stackable block structures for use in erecting a shock-resistant wall array and including block structures in both fence block and post block configurations. The top surface of each of the blocks has a pair of parallelly disposed upwardly protruding laterally extending ridge projections which mate and interlock with projections formed on the bottom surface of the block. The block configuration is further provided with cores for drainage and load reduction purposes, but the upper and lower mating faces of the block have a load-bearing web which supports a superimposed stacked block thereon. The cores of the post block contain a reinforcing rod held in grout so as to provide strength and stability. Also, the post block structures are provided with recesses for lockingly receiving fence block therein, thereby providing an arrangement where the fence block array floats within the recesses and is thereby provided with a greater degree of stability.

  • Patent number: 5484236
Abstract: A method for forming concrete retaining wall blocks from a single mold with selectable dimensions such that a retaining wall of a desired setback can be defined. One of a plurality of core bars is implemented with the mold during the manufacturing process to define a laterally extending rectangular recess of a predetermined width across the lower major surface of a composite block. Subsequently, the composite block is split along a midsection thereof to form a pair of identical blocks, each block having a laterally extending front lip and a laterally extending lower recess. The depth of the recess determines the setback of a retaining wall formed therefrom. The shallower the dimension of the lower recess, the greater the setback of the individual rows forming the retaining wall formed therefrom. Further, the present method facilitates creating a pair of blocks with a textured front surface to provide an aesthetically pleasant retaining wall.

  • Patent number: 4909010
Abstract: A concrete block particularly directed to the construction of retaining wall systems, characterized particularly by a step back frontal surface which includes a frontal surface having a flat decoratable portion over a substantial vertical dimension thereof and tapered rearwardly and vertically from such frontal surface to a top planar surface with an interlock area behind such surface to receive additional blocks thereon to create a wall. This interlock area provides a flat planar block locating surface for the positioning of a next vertical block and when the blocks are arranged in vertical relation on top of one another a step back frontal surface is provided. Combination drainage and tie-back anchor apertures are provided in the rear vertical surface of the block. The block includes weight reducing passages vertically therethrough which also accommodate vertical tiers.
