  • Patent number: 5608116
Abstract: The present invention relates to the preparation of fluoroalkylalkoxylates in which one reacts at least one fluorinated alcohol with at least one alkylene epoxide in the presence of a novel catalyst system comprising an iodine source and an alkali metal borohydride.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 16, 1995
Date of Patent: March 4, 1997
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company
Inventors: Robert A. Halling, Hsu-Nan Huang
  • Patent number: 5567857
Abstract: Mixture of the compounds: F(CF.sub.2).sub.m --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --(OCH.sub.2 CH.sub.2)p--OH wherein m=2 and about 20, but in at least 5 weight % of molecules m is 8 or higher or mixtures of the same, but in no more than 5 weight % of the molecules is m equal to 14 or higher or mixtures of the same; n=1 to 3; & p=1 to 40, but the mixture has an average p=8 to 17.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 21, 1994

  • Patent number: 5552476
Abstract: Novel and highly reactive hydrolyzed silane emulsions are achieved by emulsifying a hydrolyzable alkoxysilane (e.g., or the like) in water in the presence of an effective amount of an emulsifier of sufficiently high HLB value (preferably 14 or greater) to simultaneously retain said hydrolyzable alkoxysilane compound in a substantially totally hydrolyzed state and inhibit said resulting hydrolyzed alkoxysilane compound from self-condensation. Such reactive emulsions containing hydrocarbon silanes are useful to produce durable coatings that impart water repellency and lubricity to substrates having siliceous, cellulosic or proteinaceous surfaces.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 12, 1994
Date of Patent: September 3, 1996
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours and Company

  • Patent number: 5550184
Abstract: Novel and highly reactive hydrolyzed silane emulsions are achieved by emulsifying a hydrolyzable alkoxysilane (e.g., perfluoroalkylethyltris(2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxy)silane, 2-perfluoroalkylethyltris(2-(2-(2-methoxyethoxy)ethoxy)ethoxy) silane, 2-Perfluoroalkylethyltris(polyoxyethyleneglycolmonomethylether)silane or the like) in water in the presence of an effective amount of an emulsifier of sufficiently high HLB value (preferably 14 or greater) to simultaneously retain said hydrolyzable alkoxysilane compound in a substantially totally hydrolyzed state and inhibit said resulting hydrolyzed alkoxysilane compound from self-condensation. Such reactive emulsions containing fluorocarbon silanes are useful to produce durable coatings that impart oil and water repellency to substrates having siliceous, cellulosic or proteinaceous surfaces.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 4, 1994
Date of Patent: August 27, 1996

  • Patent number: 5442011
Abstract: Novel polymeric fluorocarbon siloxane represented by the formula: ##STR1## and corresponding polymeric branched structures wherein R.sub.a is a perfluoroalkyl radical, R.sub.b is an aminoalkyl or substituted aminoalkyl radical and R.sub.c hydrocarbyl, substituted hydrocarbyl phenyl, substituted phenyl or cyanoalkyl radical are shown to form stable aqueous emulsions without the use of volatile organic solvents and by a low energy processing. These emulsion are found to be highly hydrolyzed in solution without leading to precipitation via intermolecular condensation The emulsions when applied to substrates impart both oil and water repellent properties as well as improved lubricity.

  • Patent number: 5239019
Abstract: A hydrophilic copolyester containing both polyoxyethylene diester and alkylene diester segments, and optionally containing other components, which copolyester has been modified after being formed by reaction with one or more polyols containing three or more hydroxy groups or one or more polyoxyethylene glycols or a mixture of one or more of such polyols and one or more of such glycols. The copolyester can be used in treating fibers and films.
