Patent number: 11920225Abstract: Elements formed from magnetic materials and their methods of manufacture are presented. Magnetic materials include a magnetic alloy material, such as, for example, an Fe-Co alloy material (e.g., the Fe-Co-V alloy Hiperco-50(R)). The magnetic alloy materials may comprise a powdered material suitable for use in additive manufacturing techniques, such as, for example direct energy deposition or laser powder bed fusion. Manufacturing techniques include the use of variable deposition time and energy to control the magnetic and structural properties of the materials by altering the microstructure and residual stresses within the material. Manufacturing techniques also include post deposition processing, such as, for example, machining and heat treating. Heat treating may include a multi-step process during which the material is heated, held and then cooled in a series of controlled steps such that a specific history of stored internal energy is created within the material.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2022Date of Patent: March 5, 2024Assignee: California Institute of TechnologyInventors: Samad A. Patent number: 10196851Abstract: The insulated glass unit (IGU) of the present disclosure includes two or more glass panels that are spaced apart in a parallel arrangement. The panes define an interior space that is filled with air or other suitable gas, a fluid or liquid, or a vacuum. The IGU is encapsulated to provide a water-tight seal to prevent or minimize water or particles from migrating into the interior space, or to prevent or minimize heat loss. A spacer with a desiccant can be in the interior space. To preserve the structural integrity of the glass panels during encapsulation, a second spacer is placed between the glass panes. The second spacer can be T-shaped so that a narrowed body portion fits between the glass panes. The second spacer can also have a groove therein for storing adhesive and/or desiccant.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2015Date of Patent: February 5, 2019Assignee: SCHOTT GEMTRON CORPORATIONInventors: Craig Bienick, Robert Herrmann, Bret Buxton

Patent number: 9125647Abstract: A method and device to elevate retainers on a suture thread to a desired angle such that the retainers can retain the desired elevation. The retainers can be elevated using an apparatus having at least one roller and at least one bending bar, wherein the bending bar contacts the retainers adjacent to the at least one roller to apply a force to the retainers. The retainers can also be elevated using a tube-shaped apparatus. A suture can be made up of an inner core and a coating that upon a stimuli increases the protrusion of the retainers away from the suture core. A coating can be inserted into the cut associated with the retainer and repulsive or expansive forces result in a pushing out of the cut and distending of the retainers away from the suture core.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2009Date of Patent: September 8, 2015Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.Inventors: Alexei Goraltchouk, Robert A. Patent number: 8961560Abstract: A marked heterofunctional suture thread has two or more sections having different features. One or more sections of the suture thread are provided with laser-marked and non-laser marked indicia in order that they may be identified and differentiated from other sections. The suture thread may have retainers on the surface of one or more sections such that the suture thread can engage and retain tissue without knots. The markers may be used to indicate fixed features of a section of suture thread such as the presence and/orientation of retainers. In particular embodiments, laser-marked and non-laser marked indicia are used to identify the transition section of a bidirectional self-retaining suture.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 2010Date of Patent: February 24, 2015Assignee: Ethicon, Inc.Inventors: Rui Avelar, Alexei Goraltchouk, Robert A. Patent number: 8719135Abstract: Methods and systems for providing estimated insurance quotes/premiums are described herein. After analyzing rate factors, a subset of rate factors are selected that yield a fairly accurate estimated insurance premium from a minimum amount of information easily obtainable from a user. The user inputs a value from a predetermined set of allowable inputs (value input filter). After receiving and analyzing the user inputs, the system generates one or more estimates and displays the one or more estimates to the user, e.g., via a web page. When multiple estimates are provided, the multiple estimates may differ based on the level of coverage, add-on features, or both. Readily known non-personal identifying information is preferably requested and used, thereby alleviating privacy concerns while still being able to provide an estimate to the user very quickly, e.g., under 30 seconds, once all the requested information is obtained.Type: GrantFiled: May 9, 2013Date of Patent: May 6, 2014Assignee: Allstate Insurance CompanyInventors: Craig Oldham, Michael Frederick Hobart, Dean Krieter, Javier Porras, Jeffrey Robert Herrmann, John Paul Wojcik
