Abstract: A method of producing an antibody recognizing a target fatty acid alcohol ester by immunizing an animal with a carrier protein conjugated with a derivative of the target fatty acid alcohol ester. A method of estimating alcohol consumption of an individual by quantitating levels of molecules which bind to antibodies produced with a derivative of a target fatty acid alcohol ester conjugated to a carrier protein in a biological sample obtained from the individual. A kit for estimating alcohol consumption of an individual including means for quantitating levels of molecules which bind to antibodies produced with a derivative of a target fatty acid alcohol ester conjugated to a carrier protein in a biological sample obtained from the individual.

Abstract: There is provided a method of assessing oxidant stress by measuring polymerization of proteins. Also provided is a marker for oxidant stress which includes a polymerized protein. A kit for use in assessing oxidant stress, the kit including an assay for detecting polymerized proteins is also provided. A method of lowering oxidant stress by administering to a patient an effective amount of at least one reducing agent is also provided. A pharmaceutical composition for lowering oxidant stress, the pharmaceutical having an effective amount of reducing agent and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier is also provided.

Abstract: A pool skimmer for quickly skimming a pool to remove debris. The pool skimmer includes an elongate pole handle and at least one skimming net assembly. The pole handle has opposite proximal and distal ends. Each skimming net assembly comprises an open frame and a net screen. The open frame defines a central opening which the net screen extends across. One end portion of the open frame is pivotally coupled to the distal end of the pole handle. The other end portion of the open frame of the skimming net assembly is adapted for detachable attachment to an end portion of an open frame of another skimming net assembly.

Abstract: Cross-linked, synthetic polymer compositions comprising an aqueous polymer dispersion of (1) heterogeneous polymer particles having a high concentration of reactive groups such as an activated halogen on their surface and (2) a water-soluble coreactive component bearing a plurality of reactive groups coreactive with the reactive groups of the heterogeneous polymer particle, e.g., ##STR1## are useful for preparing strong films or coatings. For example, a polymer composition consisting of an aqueous colloidal dispersion of heterogeneous polymer particles having a shell layer derived from a reactive monomer such as vinylbenzyl chloride and a coreactive component of triethylenetetraamine can be applied to a suitable substrate and cross-linked to form a strong, water-resistant film.
