  • Patent number: 4617608
Abstract: A variable gap device which comprises a suitable material with a cavity formed therein mounted over a body. Elements are formed on the surface of the body and on the top surface of the cavity. In one embodiment, the elements are electrodes of a variable capacitance device, and in another embodiment the elements are partial or total reflectors of incident light from an optical fiber. The surface of the cavity opposite the body is preferably flat and of the order of microns from the body. The device is fabricated by forming a removable layer over a temporary substrate. An appropriate element pattern is formed over the removable layer and the layer is etched in a configuration which will define the cavity. The deformable material is encapsulated over this structure and then removed from the substrate with the element remaining in the cavity. Any removable material remaining in the cavity can then be etched away.

  • Patent number: 4417023
Abstract: Flatting agents, such as silica, talc and carbonates are present in radiation hardenable compositions in order to reduce gloss and obtain a flat appearance in cured coating. However, the flatting agent settles in the radiation-hardenable composition. To reduce settling of the flatting agent, one or more stabilizers are added to the composition. Useful stabilizers are alkylene oxide adducts of particular siloxane copolymers.

  • Patent number: 4389669
Abstract: An opto-video inspection system for inspecting and examining miniaturized solid-state devices, such as hybrids. An XY table simultaneously positions a known good device and a device to be inspected under respective stereo-zoom microscopes. A TV camera is coupled to each microscope. The XY table, under microprocessor control, is manipulated to select the "target" or wire bond to be viewed. The selected sites may be simultaneously viewed upon a split screen video display or, alternatively, either the known good device or the device being inspected may be separately viewed through the associated stereo-zoom microscope or on the video screen. Dwell time at each site is computer selectable, as is the sequencing of sites to be viewed. Defective bonds, imperfections or other conditions are permanently recorded through a printer which automatically associates the code printed thereby with the site in view at that time.

  • Patent number: 4382135
Abstract: Radiation curable diluents have been developed which are acrylic acid esters of alkoxylated 1,6-hexanediol, neopentyl glycol and tripropylene glycol, each having a relatively low degree of alkoxylation. Examples are diacrylates of adducts of neopentyl glycol with two moles, four moles and six moles, respectively, of ethylene oxide and with two moles and four moles, respectively, of propylene oxide.
