Abstract: A facing gauge is provided for accurately determining the dimensions of the windway used within woodwind instrument mouthpieces. The gauge consists of a table arrangement which includes a depth-measuring gauge along with a linear-distance-measuring gauge for accurately determining the dimensions of the side rails and the tip rail. The gauge also provides a detailed measurement of the shape and contour of the baffle portion of the mouthpiece.

Abstract: A reed protector for a woodwind instrument supported by a sleeve separate from the ligature which is used to hold the reed in place. A sleeve is provided with a pair of parallel protrusions extending from it, which protrusions have inner surfaces which face each other. A cap is pivotably mounted at one end on the protrusions and is held in a protective position by one set of lugs on the pivot member and in a playing position by a second set of lugs. The cap contains a foam material at its free end which aids in keeping the reed moist when the cap is in the protective position. Additionally, the cap may be used to carry an extra reed therein.

Abstract: A clarinet barrel having fixed internal dimensions is provided with a plurality of throat members having a fixed outer dimension for insertion within the clarinet barrel. The inner dimensions of the individual throats are varied in order to provide varying tonal qualities to the clarinet. The throat member can be fabricated from materials other than wood to provide further tonal qualities.

Abstract: A carrying case for the accessories including reeds used with woodwind instruments. An insert is provided within the case and has a multiplicity of flat surfaces located longitudinally on its outside surface for holding reeds with an opening extending longitudinally within the insert for storage.

Abstract: A dual-hinged case adaptable for holding various items and in particular one or more types of reeds used in musical woodwind instruments. A dual-hinged case is provided capable of utilizing varying holding means to permit the safe retention of various types of items, as for example, reeds such as those used by a clarinet or saxophone and those used by an oboe, English horn or bassoon.

Abstract: This invention relates to a gauge for measuring the internal diameter of a passage. The gauge comprises a tapered calibrated cone with an extendable rod member. The tapered cone is inserted within the passage and the rod is extended to contact the edge of interior surface of the passage adjacent the diameter to be determined.

Abstract: A reed-holding device for retaining a single reed on the mouthpiece of a woodwind instrument such as a clarinet or saxophone. A string extends from brackets. Grooves in the brackets maintain various sections of the string equally-spaced from one another.
