    Abstract: A pre-insulated pipe for carrying a fluid pressure has an elongated service pipe of a first length. A first insulation layer of an aerogel is wrapped about the service pipe. A metallic sleeve is wrapped about the first insulation layer such that a compressive force is exerted on the aerogel within the sleeve. The metallic sleeve has a second length less than the first length of the elongated service pipe.
