Patent number: 8077104Abstract: System and method for improving the interference resistance of an radio frequency (RF) antenna system through passive prescreening of the RF energy incident upon the antenna. The invention physically partitions the RF environment into two or more sectors with respect to the direction of arrival of incident energy. The power level of the RF frequencies of interest incident upon each sector is determined such that whenever the power level exceeds a given threshold, the received signal from energy incident on that sector is modified.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2007Date of Patent: December 13, 2011Assignee: Science Applications International CorporationInventors: Cordell Fox, Kevin Wing, Robert A. Publication number: 20090288548Abstract: An electronic musical instrument controller is constructed by fixing sensors and transducers to sections of a chair, allowing a user to map motion of body, arms, head, hands, fingers, and feet to parameters of a musical instrument such as a hardware or software electronic music synthesizer. The mapping may take place over MIDI, control voltage, computer connection, or other means of interfacing.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 19, 2009Publication date: November 26, 2009Inventors: Cary R. Patent number: 7561105Abstract: The present invention provides a method of selecting receiving pairs from a set of at least three receivers that may be used to localize an emitter. This involves identifying the set of at least three receivers to be used to localize the emitter. An isochron may be developed for each receiver pair wherein each isochron has a finite width. The intersection of two isochrons creates an uncertainty parallelogram. When the intersection of two isochrones is substantially orthogonal or subtends a relatively large angle, uncertainty based on the intersection angle is minimized and uncertainty becomes primarily a function of isochron width. To determine acceptable or best receiver pairs to be used, the intersections of each isochron pair may be analyzed. The uncertainty parallelograms and intersection angles are compared for each pair of intersecting isochrons. Then, receiver pairs that produced the isochrons that result in a reduced or compact uncertainty parallelogram may be selected.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 2005Date of Patent: July 14, 2009Assignee: Lockheed Martin CorporationInventors: Robert A. Patent number: 5113480Abstract: A dual element comprises two electrical heating elements of different ratings. Each heating element has first and second terminals. The second terminals of the two heating elements are secured to a common clip, which is wired into an appropriate electrical circuit. The heating element first terminals are secured to respective clips. A second wire of the circuit is connected to a selected one of the first terminal clips, thereby determining the power rating of the dual element. A jumper is provided that is selectively installable between the two first terminal clips. With the jumper installed, the second wire may be connected to either of the first terminal clips to thereby place the two heating elements in parallel. The rating of the dual element is then the sum of the ratings of the two individual heating elements. In that manner, the dual element is operable at three different ratings.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1990Date of Patent: May 12, 1992Assignee: Apcom, Inc.Inventors: Robert A. Murphy, Rodney R. Patent number: 4884878Abstract: There is disclosed an optical unit which is primarily intended to retrofit existing work piece processing machines such as coordinate measuring machines, milling machines or EDM machines. The optical unit includes a zoom lens with a lens housing, and an optical coupling for a video camera. The lens housing isolates the optical elements against vibration during adjustment of the zoom lens, and for this purpose a flexible belt link is provided between a lens focusing knob and the zoom lens. An optical coupling having a relay or copying lens and an extender lens is included between the video camera and the zoom lens. This coupling effectively decrease the back focal length of the high magnification zoom lens and greatly compress the overall assembly. The optical coupling includes a coupling housing having a focusing cylinder that rotatably adjusts the position of the relay lens.Type: GrantFiled: November 17, 1986Date of Patent: December 5, 1989Assignee: Ram Optical Instrumentation, Inc.Inventors: Mark G. Patent number: 4779967Abstract: An objective lens system having a pair of plano-convex lenses disposed adjacent each other with the convex surfaces facing each other and aligned along common optical axis. A plurality of optical fibers surround the plan-convex lenses to convey light and illuminate an object to be viewed by the objective lens assembly. Adjustably positioned adjacent the second plano-convex lens is a field lens system including an elongate rod lens for conducting the intermediate image from the plano-convex lenses and to relay it to an ocular lens system for viewing by the user.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1986Date of Patent: October 25, 1988Assignee: Ram Optical Instrumentation, Inc.Inventors: Robert A. Murphy, Mark G. Arenal

Patent number: 4419567Abstract: The heating element has an outer connector assembly including a cylindrical threaded portion adapted to be threaded into a boss on the heater water tank and a sheathed continuous electric resistance heating rod which has both ends secured to the connector assembly and which extends generally perpendicular to the heater tank centerline when installed. The heating rod is formed in a serpentine, generally W-shaped pattern with respect to the centerline of the cylindrical threaded portion, which provides the heating rod with an effective length greater than the inside diameter of the water tank, permits the heating rod to be inserted and withdrawn through the bore of the tank boss and permits the heater rod to be rotated, as the connector assembly is being threaded into and out of the tank boss, without striking any obstructions inside the water tank, such as the cold water dip tube, the hot water pipe and the anticorrosion anode.Type: GrantFiled: March 2, 1981Date of Patent: December 6, 1983Assignee: Apcom, Inc.Inventors: Robert A.
