  • Publication number: 20140336900
Abstract: A method for operating an internal combustion engine, in which a most probable position angle is ascertained. The most probable position angle generally corresponds to a rotational position of the internal combustion engine. Position angles are each assigned at least two probabilities. The at least two probabilities are linked with each other. The most probable position angle out of the position angles is ascertained as a function of the linked probabilities.

  • Patent number: 8862454
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for simulating risk tolerance and associated adversary costs in a distributed business process are disclosed. The methods and apparatus simulate an interdependent business process, such as a financial transaction system, in a secure distributed manner. Each business entity that is part of the interdependent business process models itself on a local client device at any chosen level of detail. A simulation server connects the separate client based simulations into one large simulation. Details of each local simulation may be hidden from other simulation participants. However, interruptions in business flow caused by simulated disruptions introduced at the simulation server and/or a client device are propagated to all of the effected simulation participants via the simulation server. In addition, the simulation server receives inputs from users indicative of risk tolerance levels and associated response actions.

  • Patent number: 8826535
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing an integrally bladed rotor, whereby several rotating blades are attached to a basic rotor body by welding in such a way that first, grooves into which the rotating blades are introduced by their blade feet or adapters, and which extend substantially in the axial direction of the basic rotor body, are introduced into the basic rotor body radially outside, prior to attaching the rotating blades, then, the rotating blades are welded to the basic rotor body, wherein the grooves are introduced in the rotor body and the blade feet or adapters are formed on the rotating blades in such a way that a central axis of the grooves is positioned obliquely relative to a central axis of the blade feet or the adapters, so that a pre-twisting is formed on the rotating blades when the rotating blades are introduced into the groove.

  • Patent number: 8668058
Abstract: A ventilated brake rotor (24) includes vent holes (42) between inboard (32) and outboard (34) friction plates. The vent holes (42) are separated by ribs (40) spaced in regular circumferential increments about the rotor (24). The rib pattern (40) is divided into two or more sectors (48) of equal angular measure. Within each sector (48), an attenuation region (50) interrupts two or more ribs (40) by replacing the ribs (40) with a cluster of individual pins (54) which may be arranged in radial and circumferential rows. Each attenuation region (50) spans a territory within each sector (48) that is preferably at least 20% and less than 55% of the sector (48) real estate. The rotor (24) completely or at least substantially eliminates vibration modes in objectionable, audible frequencies without adversely affecting the structural integrity, cooling capabilities or functional attributes of the disc brake assembly (22).

  • Publication number: 20140061345
Abstract: A food homogenizer includes a drive assembly including a driving motor. The driving motor engages a rotatable mating portion that extends along a rotation axis. A homogenizer assembly is removably attached with respect to the drive assembly. The homogenizer assembly includes a homogenizing chamber, a blade assembly positioned within the homogenizing chamber and a driven shaft that extends from the blade assembly along the rotation axis. The driven shaft is received within the mating portion such that rotation of the mating portion by the driving motor causes rotation of the blade assembly about the rotation axis. A supply assembly engages a receiving opening in the homogenizer and supplies a food product. The food homogenizer includes a rinse system including a drive assembly that engages a homogenizer assembly. The rinse system includes a dispenser assembly that dispenses a liquid to the homogenizer assembly.

  • Publication number: 20140061342
Abstract: A supply assembly for a food homogenizer includes a cartridge defining a hollow interior for a food product. The supply assembly includes a force application device that applies a force to the food product. As such, the food product is movable with respect to the cartridge towards a blade assembly of the food homogenizer. A plunger movably supported within the hollow interior of the cartridge can be provided. As such, the plunger and the food product are movable with respect to the cartridge towards the blade assembly of the food homogenizer.

  • Patent number: 8662365
Abstract: A cargo carrier adapted to be removably mounted to a roof of a vehicle includes a body portion and an interior space defined by the body portion. The cargo carrier further includes a lid portion that provides access to the interior space. The lid portion is releasably attachable to the body portion by relative linear motion between the lid portion and the body portion. The cargo carrier further includes at least one mechanical fastening assembly slidingly engageable with a complementary fastening assembly, wherein the mechanical fastening assembly prevents relative motion between the lid portion and the body portion. Another embodiment of the cargo carrier includes a lid cover constructed to coact with a space defined by the lid portion and the body portion. The lid cover creates mechanical interference to prevent relative linear motion between the lid portion and the body portion.

  • Publication number: 20140044196
Abstract: A method of decoding, composing and rendering a scene. First information is obtained, the first information including a part of a MPEG-4 BIFS scene description stream and at least one coded MPEG-4 media stream. The first information is decoded by invoking a BIFS scene decoder and one or more specific media decoders that are required by the scene. Second information is obtained, the second information including a second part of a BIFS scene description stream that contains a reference to an external application. The second information is decoded by invoking the BIFS scene decoder and an external application decoder. An integrated scene is composed, the integrated scene including one or more decoded MPEG-4 media objects and one or more external application objects specified in the decoded scene descriptions streams. The composed integrated scene is rendered on a display.

  • Publication number: 20140032203
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for advancing time in a distributed business process simulation are disclosed. However, interruptions in business flow caused by simulated disruptions introduced at the simulation server and/or a client device are propagated to all of the effected simulation participants via the simulation server. In addition, simulation time may be warped from one breakpoint to another breakpoint thereby facilitating an efficient ratio of simulation time to real time.
