Patent number: 6941223Abstract: In a system for the destination routing of a vehicle, a route is determined which is optimal based on input vehicle position and destination information and on stored information, and taking into account additional information; and destination routing information is issued with respect to the optimal route. The additional information is received by an external transmitting unit and/or is stored in a memory on board the vehicle. A check takes place during the drive as to whether the route recommendation remains optimal, and a further optimal route determination is triggered if it does not.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 2003Date of Patent: September 6, 2005Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventor: Robert Schuessler

Patent number: 6798354Abstract: A device for the radio-transmission of a hazard warning to the driver of a motor vehicle includes a data transmission device for transmitting and receiving data. The data transmission device exchanges data with data transmission devices of other motor vehicles, including data to warn other motor vehicles of the hazard, evaluates received data and outputs warning signals to the driver when a hazard is detected. The transmitted data includes information on the position, speed and direction of travel of the transmitting motor vehicle, as well as the type of road on which the transmitting motor vehicle is moving. The information on the position, the type of road and the direction of travel is generated by a navigation system. A warning zone around the current position of the transmitting vehicle is calculated by a computer unit and emitted by means of the data transmission device.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2002Date of Patent: September 28, 2004Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventor: Robert Schuessler

Publication number: 20030144794Abstract: A method for dynamic destination routing of a vehicle includes the steps of a) determining several routes between a starting point and a destination point; b) determining additional information relevant to the computed routes from additional information which is received from an external transmitting unit and/or is stored in a memory carried along in the vehicle; c) determining the route which is optimal when the additional information is taken into account from the computed routes; and d) outputting destination routing information concerning the optimal route. A system for the destination routing of a vehicle comprises a system part fixedly installed on the vehicle and a portable system part. The system part fixedly installed in the vehicle is connected with the portable system part by way of at least one communication interface.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2003Publication date: July 31, 2003Inventor: Robert Schuessler

Publication number: 20030090392Abstract: The invention relates to a device for the radio-based issuing of a hazard warning to the driver of a motor vehicle with a data transmission device for transmitting and receiving data, the data transmission device exchanging data with data transmission devices of other motor vehicles and, by activating the data transmission device, emitting data to warn other motor vehicles of the hazard, and evaluating the received data and outputting warning signals to the driver when a hazard is detected, and the emitted data comprising information on the position, the speed and the direction of travel of the transmitting motor vehicle and the type of road on which the transmitting motor vehicle is moving. According to the invention, the information on the positions the type of road and the direction of travel is generated by a navigation system and in addition a warning zone around the current position of the transmitting vehicle is calculated by a computer unit and emitted by means of the data transmission device.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2002Publication date: May 15, 2003Inventor: Robert Schuessler

Patent number: 5864831Abstract: A device, for determining road tolls having a road storage unit in which, in addition to a road network, parameters are electronically stored which represent a proportional toll due for each route section of the road network. A device for determining the vehicle position is provided, as well as a computer unit which determines the toll for a vehicle travelling over a particular route as least in dependence on the parameter and position data. An adaptation to changing tolls is possible in a simple matter with this device by storing new or further parameters influencing the toll.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 1994Date of Patent: January 26, 1999Assignee: Daimler Benz AGInventor: Robert Schuessler

Patent number: 5818356Abstract: A method and a device for vehicle guidance as a function of the traffic situation is provided, during which vehicle guidance the traffic situation data are evaluated in a control center which has a computer. The control center computer determines the optimum route as a function of starting data, the traffic situation data and stored road network data in the form of sequences of intermediate destinations such that a vehicle-end navigation device is capable of reproducing successive sections of the optimum route and issuing the associated guidance instructions by using a traffic situation-independent route search method. This system permits a traffic situation-dependent vehicle guidance in which the more costly route optimization tasks are performed by the control center computer. The vehicle-end navigation computer only has to carry out traffic situation-independent route finding tasks.Type: GrantFiled: October 25, 1996Date of Patent: October 6, 1998Assignee: Daimler-Benz AGInventor: Robert Schuessler

Patent number: 5610618Abstract: A motor vehicle antenna system is disclosed for receiving electromagnetically radiated signals in the FM radio broadcast frequency range. The antenna system includes a magnetic current receiving, conformal, substantially rectangular truncated slot antenna. The slot antenna is defined in part by a substantially horizontal portion of a conductive periphery of a window opening of the motor vehicle. The slot antenna is further defined in part by a conductive trace integral with a glazing panel mounted in the window opening. The conductive trace extends horizontally a distance equal to one-half a wavelength in the FM broadcast frequency band. The ends of the trace are effectively connected to the conductive periphery of the window opening.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1994Date of Patent: March 11, 1997Assignee: Ford Motor CompanyInventors: Andrew Adrian, Bruce R.
