  • Patent number: 6101662
Abstract: A cage for a paint roller is composed as a one piece, unitary construction having a plurality of projections. The projections make pressure contact with the inside of the bore in the center of the cover so as to prevent the cover from walking off the cage in use. The projections are formed to adapt to structural irregularities in the cover bore. A cage and cover sub-assembly and a paint roller incorporating the above is disclosed. The cage may have a tubular construction with the projections extending from the exterior of the tube, or the cage may have a beam-like construction along which hubs are spaced with the projections extending from the hubs and/or the beam.

  • Patent number: 5983455
Abstract: A pole for supporting a tool includes an elongate body extending along an axis. The elongate body defines a plurality of outwardly facing facets about the axis. The elongate body preferably includes a first tube and a second tube telescopically received within the first tube for adjusting a length of the pole. The two tubes are locked relative to one another by a locking mechanism that is fixedly coupled to the first tube with a detent engaging member that extends from the locking mechanism into engagement with a detent defined by the first tube. The locking mechanism preferably comprises a collet which is threadably coupled to a chuck that defines a plurality of outwardly facing facets. Rotation of the chuck causes the chuck to overlap the detent engaging member and to frictionally clamp the collet against the second tube.

  • Patent number: 5979009
Abstract: A cage for a roller cover includes a plurality of hubs, a longitudinal support member interconnecting a plurality of hubs and a roller cover support surface integrally formed with the hubs and the support member. The roller cover support surface is resiliently biased outwardly beyond at least one of the hubs for resiliently engaging the roller cover.

  • Patent number: 5836065
Abstract: Hydroforming double wall tubular stock into an air gap tubular element comprising providing a plural wall tubular workpiece having at least an inner wall liner and an outer wall jacket having adjacent open axial ends, causing at least one of the jacket ends to extend axially beyond the adjacent liner end and to be flared outwardly, placing the workpiece into a first mold cavity of a size and configuration to result in the desired size and configuration of the liner, sealing the open ends of said liner, injecting hydroforming fluid into said liner to fill it and applying pressure thereto to expand the liner and jacket in the first mold cavity, releasing the pressure, placing the workpiece in a second mold cavity of a size and configuration desired for the jacket on a resulting air gap tubular element, providing hydroforming end closures to seal off the jacket ends, at least one of the end closures having an annular shoulder aligned with the flared extended jacket end radially outwardly offset from the adjacent

  • Patent number: 5584092
Abstract: A cage for a paint roller is composed as a one piece, unitary construction having a plurality of projections carried by a barrel portion of the cage, the projections making pressure contact with the inside of the bore in the center of the cover so as to prevent the cover from walking off the cage in use. The projections are formed to adapt to structural irregularities in the cover bore. A cage and cover sub-assembly and a paint roller incorporating the above is disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5432972
Abstract: An improved paint pad assembly is provided with a painting surface contour that is changeable from concave to flat to convex so that the paint pad can paint exterior corners, flat surfaces and interior corners with equal ease. The one-piece paint pad features handpieces disposed on the opposing edges of the paint pad. The two-piece embodiment features an inverted U-shaped handle mounted to the opposing side edges of the paint pad via a tab and lock configuration. The paint pad is hinged in the longitudinal direction thereby enabling the pad surface to extend outwardly for painting an interior corner and inwardly for painting an exterior corner with equal ease.

  • Patent number: 5014384
Abstract: A pad attachment for a paint roller assembly including a pad holder affixed to a roller type paint applicator. The pad holder retains a paint trimming and smoothing material in a form of a fabric or foam. The material retained by the holder is positioned to smooth or otherwise treat the paint being applied by the roller during a painting application. In addition, the material may function to trim or "cut in" at the interface of a surface adjacent the surface being painted. In an alternative embodiment, the invention may be part of a paint roller assembly having an adjustable splatter shield. The pad holder is integrally formed with the shield and is removably retractable and extensible along with the shield.
