  • Patent number: 9969135
Abstract: A method using additive manufacturing technologies and processes to manufacture a three-dimensional ophthalmic lens with a high management level of the homogeneity during the construction of the ophthalmic lens, through a control of two technical characteristics of voxel: the ability to modify their viscosity, and the ability to inter-diffuse together to provide a final homogeneous element. These two technical characteristics are managed by the choice of component(s) used to manufacture each voxel and by the kind of physical and/or chemical treatment apply to each of them.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 31, 2013
Date of Patent: May 15, 2018
Assignee: ESSILOR INTERNATIONAL (COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'OPTIQUE)
Inventors: Robert A. Valeri, Steven Weber, John Biteau

  • Patent number: 7067565
Abstract: The invention relates to primer coating compositions exhibiting very good adhesion properties on a large variety of substrates, in particular plastic substrates such as ophthalmic lenses made of organic glasses and which also impart good impact resistance properties to the thus coated substrates. The invention also concerns substrates coated with these primer coating compositions as well as a method for making such coated substrates.

    Filed: May 29, 2002
Date of Patent: June 27, 2006
Assignee: Essilor International Compagnie Generale d'Optique
Inventors: Robert A. Valeri, Kimberly D. Anderson, Sidney S. White

  • Patent number: 5619288
Abstract: A method is disclosed for imparting impact resistance to a plastic ophthalmic lens. The method consists of applying a coating of a multifunctional acrylate in a solvent mixture to the back surface of the lens, and curing the multifunctional acrylate to form an impact resistance imparting coat. The multifunctional acrylate preferably has at least about 40%, by weight, of a difunctional acrylate. The multifunctional acrylate preferably has a glass transition temperature less than about 60.degree. C. Lenses with an impact resistance imparting coat on the back, and an abrasion resistant coat on at least the front of the lens, are also disclosed.
