    Abstract: A nutritonal fat suitable for enteral and parenteral products is disclosed. This fat consists essentially of from about 50 to 100% by weight triglycerides having the formula: ##STR1## wherein each R.sup.1 group is selected from n-heptanoyl, n-octanoyl, n-nonanoyl, n-decanoyl and n-undecanoyl groups; and the R.sup.2 groups comprise from 0 to about 90% saturated acyl groups selected from n-heptanoyl, n-octanoyl, n-nonanoyl, n-decanoyl, n-undecanoyl, lauroyl, myristoyl, palmitoyl, stearoyl and mixtures thereof; from 0 to about 90% oleoyl groups; from about 10 to 100% linoleoyl groups; and from 0 to about 10% linolenoyl groups.

    Abstract: An improved solvent-free transesterification process for producing higher polyol fatty acid polyesters is disclosed. In this process a mixture of a polyol, a fatty acid methyl, 2-methoxy ethyl or benzyl ester, an alkali metal fatty acid soap, and a basic catalyst, having a molar ratio of soap:polyol of from about 0.6:1 to about 1:1, preferably from about 0.75:1 to about 1:1, is heated to form a homogeneous melt. To this melt is subsequently added excess fatty acid methyl, 2-methoxy ethyl or benzyl ester, yielding the desired polyol fatty acid polyesters.

    Abstract: Saturated triglycerides are reacted with glycerol in the presence of either a glycerolysis catalyst or a pre-formed glycerate to provide a product which is a mixture of monoglycerides, triglycerides, 1,2-diglycerides and 1,3-diglycerides. The mixture is stored in the presence of a low temperature rearrangement catalyst at a storage temperature below the melting point of the glyceride ester components of the mixture and substantially all of the mixture is converted into 1,3-diglycerides. In this way there are prepared, for example, 1-palmitoyl,3-stearoyl diglyceride, 1,3-distearoyl diglyceride and 1,3-dipalmitoyl diglyceride, which are appropriate precursors for the synthesis of confectioner's hard butters, and the like.

    Abstract: Non-absorbable polyol polyesters dissolve toxic lipophilic compounds in the stomach and intestine of humans and lower animals and thus decrease their absorption. The polyol polyesters also dissolve the toxic, lipophilic materials and their metabolites if they are excreted in bile, and prevent their resorption. The invention thus provides a means for detoxifying humans and lower animals which have ingested toxic lipophilic materials (e.g., DDT, Kepone, PCB, PBB) by accelerating the excretion of such materials that have accumulated in the body. The process involves oral administration to a human or lower animal in need of such treatment of a sufficient amount of a non-absorbable polyol fatty acid polyester to effect detoxification.
