Patent number: 9450839Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer program product for of efficient network bandwidth utilization in a distributed processing system are provided. Embodiments include monitoring, by a network monitor, network usage of a distributed processing system containing a plurality of endpoint devices; creating, by the network monitor, a historical network usage pattern based on the monitoring of the network usage; based on the historical network usage pattern, identifying, by the network monitor, a first set of future time periods predicted to correspond with low network usage; and selecting from the first set of future time periods, by the network monitor, a particular time period to perform a network administrative task on an endpoint device in the distributed processing system.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 2012Date of Patent: September 20, 2016Assignee: Lenovo Enterprise Solutions (Singapore) Pte. Ltd.Inventors: Keyur Patel, Sathyakumar A. Ramalingam, Robert A. Vrabel

Publication number: 20160064106Abstract: A heat transfer approach to the calculation of residual power of used nuclear fuel (UNF). This application is a conceptual design of an alternative method for determination of residual power of UNF. Our approach is based on the heat transfer analysis of UNF in the transport container with a compact storage cask. To our knowledge, the proposed method for the calculation of residual power of UNF directly in the transport container is unique and can also provide an effective tool to verify the SCALE 6 in order to ensure the safe transport of the UNF.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 2, 2014Publication date: March 3, 2016Inventors: Robert Vrabel, Pavol Tanuska, Peter Schreiber, Pavel Vazan, Michal Kopcek

Patent number: 9208041Abstract: Methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for dynamic protection of a master operating system image are provided. Embodiments include monitoring, by an image deployment monitor, an operational state of a deployed copy of a master operating system (OS) image; detecting, by the image deployment monitor, a change in the operational state of the deployed copy of the master OS image; in response to detecting the change, generating, by the image deployment monitor, a configuration recommendation to prevent the change from occurring in operational states of future deployed copies of the master OS image; and providing, by the image deployment monitor, the configuration recommendation to the master OS image.Type: GrantFiled: October 5, 2012Date of Patent: December 8, 2015Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Albert D. Patent number: 5235597Abstract: A method and apparatus for allowing the higher layers of two nodes on a connection that uses an asynchronous link protocol to synchronize the exchange of messages so that, without knowledge of the lower data link protocols, the protocols at higher layers can complete when the data link protocols are also complete. The upper layer of a node sends messages for transmittal to another node to the lower layer of its node and receives messages from another node via the lower layer of its node. A first message, including an initiator flag is sent from the upper layer of the first node to the lower layer of the first node. In response, the lower layer transmits a second message including the initiator flag from the first message to the lower layer of the second node. The second message is transmitted as a command or a response in accordance with the send process state of the lower layer of the first node.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 1991Date of Patent: August 10, 1993Assignee: International Business Machines Corp.Inventors: Harold A.
