  • Patent number: 10107983
Abstract: A traceable cable and method of forming the same. The cable includes at least one data transmission element, a jacket, and a side-emitting optical fiber. The side-emitting optical fiber includes a core having a first index of refraction and a cladding having a second index of refraction that is different than the first index of refraction. The cladding substantially surrounding the core and has an exterior surface with spaced apart scattering sites penetrating the exterior surface. The scattering sites are capable of scattering light so that the scattered light is emitted from the side-emitting optical fiber at discrete locations. The core also includes one or more mode coupling features capable of changing at least some low order mode light in the side-emitting optical fiber to high order mode light, thereby increasing light emitted from the scattering sites.

  • Publication number: 20180284715
Abstract: A control system having packaged sets of control logic, referred to as templates. A template may be deployed in a system many times to solve a system's needs. Upon deployment, the user may need to perform many binding operations. The present system and approach may greatly reduce the labor involved in deploying control templates and in templates configuring a system of devices. Semantic tagging may be used. When designing a template, binding hints may be provided for each entity in the template that requires binding upon deployment. The binding hints may be used as a search predicate. When a template is deployed into a control space, a search query with binding hints for each bindable entity defined, may automatically be executed against the control space. If there is a single result for a bindable entity, then it may be automatically bound. If there are multiple results, a user may be prompted to choose from a results list.

  • Publication number: 20180253894
Abstract: Techniques are provided for 3D model reconstruction of dynamic scenes using hybrid foreground-background processing. A methodology implementing the techniques according to an embodiment includes receiving multiple static images of a scene. Each static image is generated by a static camera, positioned at a fixed location and oriented at a fixed viewing angle. The method also includes receiving multiple dynamic images of the scene, each dynamic image generated by a movable camera. The method further includes performing 3D reconstruction of the scene foreground, based on the static images, and performing 3D reconstruction of the scene background, based on the static images and the dynamic images. The method further includes superimposing the reconstructed 3D foreground and 3D background, with alignment based on calibration parameters (e.g., focal length, principal point, rotation, or translation) of the static and movable cameras, to provide a hybrid 3D reconstruction of the scene for 3D rendering.

  • Patent number: 9943266
Abstract: Heart rate monitors are plagued by noisy photoplethysmography (PPG) data, which makes it difficult for the monitors to output a consistently accurate heart rate reading. Noise is often caused by motion. Using known methods for processing accelerometer readings that measure movement to filter out some of this noise may help, but not always. The present disclosure describes an improved front-end technique (time-domain interference removal) based on using adaptive linear prediction on accelerometer data to generate filters for filtering the PPG signal prior to tracking the frequency of the heartbeat (heart rate). The present disclosure also describes an improved back-end technique based on steering the frequency of a resonant filter in order to track the heartbeat. Implementing one or both of these techniques leads to more accurate heart rate measurements.

  • Patent number: 9933587
Abstract: An organic light emitting diode (OLED) device having enhanced light extraction is disclosed. The OLED device includes an upper waveguide structure having an organic layer and supports first guided modes, and a lower waveguide structure with a light-extraction waveguide that supports second guided modes substantially matched to the first guided modes. The lower waveguide structure includes a light-extraction waveguide interfaced with a light-extraction matrix. The light-extraction waveguide includes one or more light-redirecting features. The upper and lower waveguide structures are configured to facilitate mode coupling from the first guided modes to the second guide modes while substantially avoiding coupling the first guided modes to surface plasmon polaritons. The light traveling in the second guided modes is redirected to exit the OLED device by light-redirecting features of the light-extraction waveguide.
