  • Patent number: 6376441
Abstract: A multi-phase melt cast toilet bar which has at least one interface along a plane perpendicular to the plane formed by the x and y-axis of said bar, and a process of making the bar is described. Each phase, containing a cleansing agent, is reproducibly positioned in the bar to be used simultaneously thereby allowing the user to simultaneously derive benefits from the use of the cleansing agents contained in the bar's layers. The process for making the bar is a continuous one, whereby the molten cleansing agents are simultaneously or separately poured into the mold, simultaneously or separately allowed to harden, and where the mold divider is not removed or removed either after hardening of the adjacent molten cleansing agent but before the pouring of the next molten cleansing agent, or removed while at least one phase remains flowable. The hardened multi-phase toilet bar is finally ejected from the mold.

  • Patent number: 6345733
Abstract: A two-compartment package is provided which includes a unitarily formed hollow sleeve with first and second openings on opposite ends. First and second compartments are formed from the sleeve through a crimp between the first and second ends, the crimp preventing fluid communication between the compartments and allowing sufficient hinged flexibility for the compartments to align parallel to one another. The cap with projections coupling together the first and second compartments maintains those compartments in parallel alignment. A variety of consumer products may be filled into the package, most particularly it is suitable for a toothpaste with mutually incompatible ingredients being separated into respective compartments, such as a peroxide and baking soda.

  • Patent number: 6161729
Abstract: A dual-chambered dispenser is provided including a pair of elongated hollow tubes containing separate flowable material streams, a manifold for directing the flow through separate chambers, a cap fitting over dispensing openings of the manifold and a metering valve located within the manifold downstream from the dispensing openings. The valve is present to adjust differences in flow rates between the two material streams. In a preferred embodiment, the tubes are juxtaposed along their respective flat outer walls which may include a series of ribs/depressions allowing for coupling of the tubes and strengthening the flat walls against collapse relative to other wall areas of the tubes. Advantageously the valve is a duckbill type and the tubes taper in a pear shape, the broader portion being near the open end of the tubes.

  • Patent number: 6138315
Abstract: A unitarily constructed toothbrush is provided including a head with bristles unitarily molded therewith, a handle and a neck, all being formed of an identical plastic material. Dispersed throughout the plastic material is at least one anti-microbial active compound such as a halogenated hydrocarbon, a quaternary ammonium salt or combinations thereof. Preferably the plastic material is a low density polyethylene. Toothbrushes of the present invention inhibit the growth of bacteria and other micro-organisms thereby avoiding the possibility of infecting oral gums.

  • Patent number: 6136253
Abstract: A duckbill valve is provided which includes a hollow cylindrical elastomeric body with first and second ends. The first end has walls parabolically tapering to an elongate slit, the slit being surrounded by an upper and lower lip. The second end has a non-uniformly round (e.g. oval) outer wall terminating in an open mouth. When inserted into a perfectly round apertured fitting, the non-uniformly round outer walled elastomeric body is bowed to form-fit the round configuration thereby forcing shut the lips and slit. Upon increased air pressure within the elastomeric body, the slit is forced open. In a second embodiment, the inner wall of the second end may be non-uniformly (e.g. oval) round. Insertion of a round tubular fitting within the non-round inner wall of the elastomeric body also achieves a bowed form-fit configuration which forces shut the lips and slit.

  • Patent number: 5934515
Abstract: A dispensing package is provided including a container with at least two discrete compartments, respective closures positioned across upper outlet ends of the compartments and a cap fitting over the respective closures. The cap includes a crown with a surrounding skirt. The skirt has at least two flexibly squeezable sides with catches formed on the skirt lockingly engageable over the closures. The crown further includes dispensing orifices for each of the outlet orifices and in an open position allows fluid dispensing from the compartments. By placing pressure on side panels of the cap, the catch can be released, lifted into a dispensing position and fluid poured from each of the respective compartments without any intermixing within the dispensing package or cross-contamination on drain back.

  • Patent number: 5926900
Abstract: A unitarily molded toothbrush is provided including a head with bristles integrally molded therewith, the bristles being integrally anchored to a top surface of the head and having a polygonal cross-section defined by at least three faces, at least one of the faces gradually transitioning outward as a slope in an area near the head top surface to minimize breakage and deformation. Preferably the bristles have a triangular cross-section with slopes of two of the faces being different from one another.

  • Patent number: 5908038
Abstract: A unitarily molded toothbrush is provided including a head with bristles integrally molded therewith, a handle and a neck, all being formed of an identical plastic material, preferably a polyolefin resin, having a Melt Index no lower than 6 g/10 min. At least one recess is formed with respective opening in an undersurface of the handle of the toothbrush. In alternative embodiments, recesses and their openings can also be found in the neck and head. These embodiments may include a beam flanked by the recess openings longitudinally traversing the length of the handle, and optionally also traversing the neck and head. Cross members may be formed orthogonal to the beam to strengthen the structure. Also provided is a kit for dental hygiene which includes the unitarily molded toothbrush in combination with a dentifrice to improve the delivery of flavor or a therapeutically active substance such as a source of fluoride.

  • Patent number: 5881772
Abstract: A duckbill valve is provided based on a valve seal with a hollow cylindrical body with first and second ends, the first end having an open mouth, the second end having a closable mouth circumscribed by a pair of crescent shaped lips. One of the lips has a thinner width than the other. The cylindrical body flares outward in the direction from the first end towards the second end. In another aspect, the cylindrical body includes a posterior and an anterior section adjacent the respective first and second ends, the anterior section having an outer wall portion curvilinearly tapering toward the thinner lip. Valves of the present invention are particularly suitable for controlling flow of semi-solid substances because the mouth of the duckbill can open to a relatively large extent, the latter being off-center within a round collar fitting.
