    Abstract: There is disclosed a chair (10) for positioning an individual with respect to a reference location (5), such as a table. The chair (10) comprises a base portion (12) configured to be located on a support surface (6). A seat portion (16) is mounted to the base portion (12) and is configured to receive the individual thereon. A first mechanism (21) is configured to provide rotational movement of said seat portion (16) with respect to said base portion (12). A second mechanism (25) is configured to provide sliding lateral movement of the seat portion (16) with respect to said base portion (12). The first mechanism (21) and the second mechanism (25) are activated independently to facilitate movement of the individual from a first position that is located remote from the reference location (5) to a second position that is located adjacent said reference location (5) without the need for movement of the base portion (12) with respect to the support surface.
