  • Dual-head multibeam sonar apparatus and method for tracking objects underwater

    Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for tracking the position in three dimensions of one or more objects underwater. Two multibeam sonar heads are positioned to operate in intersecting planes. The two multibeam sonar heads are synchronized to the time signals are emitted from a transmitter. The echoes of the emitted signals are detected by both heads and the data from the two sonar heads is transmitted to a computer that processes the data and can display the position of the one or more objects.
