  • Patent number: 6599550
Abstract: Improved cereal-based food products suitable for cooking in a low temperature (i.e., generally about 120 to 212° F.) and high moisture (i.e., steam) environment are provided. The improved cereal-based food products, when cooked in a low temperature and high moisture environment, provide aroma and surface appearance characteristics similar to that of oven-baked goods. An aroma-enhancement component is obtained by micro encapsulating flavorants and/or aroma components in a hard fat. The aroma-enhancement component is incorporated into the dough or cereal-based substrate. The flavorants and/or aroma components are released during the low temperature cooking process. The surface appearance is obtain by coating the dough or cereal-based substrate with a crust-enhancement component containing potato flakes, hydrophobic starch, crust flavorants, colorants, and anti-caking agents.

  • Publication number: 20030095692
Abstract: A method for processing medical images for use in the detection and diagnosis of disease comprises classifying regions of interest within the medical images based on a hierarchy of anatomical models and signal models of signal information of an image acquisition device used to acquire the medical images. The anatomical models are derived to be representative of anatomical information indicative of a given disease. A computer-aided system for use in the diagnosis and detection of disease comprises an image acquisition device for acquiring a plurality of image data sets and a processor adapted to process the image data sets. The processor is adapted to classify selected tissue types within the image data sets based on a hierarchy of signal and anatomical models and the processor is further adapted to differentiate anatomical context of the classified tissue types for use in the diagnosis and detection of disease.

  • Patent number: 5078951
Abstract: A high-efficiency apparatus for detecting fast neutrons includes an assembly of disks of solid state charged particle detector material, or other appropriate charged particle detecting devices, disposed between adjacent thick (on the order of 1 mm) disks of fissionable material. The fissionable material must be an isotope that has a sharp increase in the neutron-induced fission cross section at a neutron energy of about 100 keV or greater, i.e., a fast neutron. An array of such assemblies housed in a thermal neutron shielding structure provides a threshold detector for fast neutrons resulting from neutron-induced fission of the fissionable material.

  • Patent number: 4106370
Abstract: A device for the sensing and the measuring of the axial tension stresses occurring within the bolt of a threaded fastening system under installation comprising a metallic, electrically conductive flat washer-like first member, and a metallic, electrically insulated flat washer-like second member; wherein the electrically insulating material of an anodic-oxide coating, which is grown onto the second member's electrically conductive aluminum base material, is used as an intervening solid supporting substance for the purpose of spacing the first and the second member's electrically conductive surfaces, through a predetermined distance from each other, to resist a current flow therethrough; wherein, due to the anodic-oxide coating's minute compressibility under varying light to severe compressive load conditions, a change in the oxide coating's electrical leak-resistance occurs, thus allowing a very minute, detectable current to flow between the first and the second member.

  • Patent number: 4041710
Abstract: The invention described herein is a new and novel prime mover device which operates as in integral component of a heat vapor cycle which, in combination, represents a heat engine system consisting of a closed, vertically oriented fluid recirculation system, utilizing a non-compressible fluid as a working medium.Wherein the device's fluid downward flowing section comprises a fluid penstock and a hydraulic turbine, whose function is the conversion of the downward flowing fluid's potential energy into kinetical energy and then into mechanical energy by driving the turbine which, in turn, drives the electrical generator.

  • Patent number: 4020721
Abstract: In the disclosed apparatus, a movable die is slidably mounted about a guide base for translation along a longitudinal direction thereof. The movable die is spring biased toward one end of the die guide and accepts the continuous strip stock output of a rolled mill as fed by the mill. A straight rod is pivotally mounted to the movable die for translation therewith. The rod is slidably mounted about an adjacent stationary table which projects away from the movable die in the direction of movement of the strip stock. The rod includes a cut-off block fixedly mounted at a predetermined point intermediate the ends of the rod. As the strip stock advances through guide surfaces disposed about the table, it engages the block so that upon subsequent movement of the stock the movable die is translated with the stock. When a given surface of the die reaches a predetermined point, the surface engages a microswitch which closes the cutting blades of the movable die to sever a predetermined length of strip stock.
