Abstract: Apparatus for helically winding a web or ribbon material on a mandrel. The web is wound in traversing or helical fashion by means of a guide wheel which is mechanically independent of the rotational movement of the mandrel. Lateral movement of the guide wheel is provided by a hydraulic cylinder pressurized through a servo valve controlled by an electronic position regulating system including absolute position feedback.
