Abstract: A pipeline vortex spoiler system comprising elongated foamed plastic strakes which are formed in sections approximately fifteen to twenty feet in length and have a somewhat inverted T-shaped cross sectional configuration. The strakes are disposed on the exterior surface of a cylindrical pipeline or the like to form a spiral or helical path and are secured to the pipeline section by flexible cylindrical bands or straps. The strake sections are adaptable to use on pipeline sections and other cylindrical bodies having a wide range of diameters, and are easily stored, shipped and attached to pipelines and similar bluff body structures in the field.
