  • Patent number: 5845948
Abstract: A bumper system for vehicles having a bumper beam formed from ultra high strength steel rolled formed into a tubular body having a generally D-shaped cross-section. The D-shaped cross-section has a top and bottom flat surface area and a parabolic center area therebetween.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 29, 1997
Date of Patent: December 8, 1998
Assignee: American Bumper & Mfg. Co.

  • Patent number: 5062357
Abstract: The press has a pneumatically operated piston and cylinder mounted beneath a work plate, and linked to an upper press plate by rods extending through the work plate to provide compression in a die-set area defined between the upper press plate and the work plate. The pneumatically operated piston and cylinder are encased within an enclosed base which is insulated. The movable cylinder acts against springs also mounted within the base which cause the press plate to rebound after a pneumatically operated downstroke.

  • Patent number: 4341014
Abstract: A method and apparatus for interconnecting pairs of terminals with a pretwisted pair of insulated wires routes, cuts, strips, identifies, and secures such identified ends of the pretwisted wire pair to appropriate terminals. Routing operations are performed in part by pairs of biaxially translatable dressing finger assemblies which engage the twisted pair and provide points about which the wire is routed to achieve complex wiring patterns having multiple bends. Routing and terminating operations are performed by a pair of substantially identical mechanisms which are also mounted for biaxial translation.

  • Patent number: 4281442
Abstract: Apparatus for applying connectors to multiconductor electrical flat cable includes a motorized cable feed mechanism for feeding predetermined lengths of cable past a power actuated cable cutter to a connector applying position. Power operated cable clamps are disposed on opposite sides of the connector applying position and are movable in the cable feeding direction to precisely locate the leading or trailing end of the cable at the connector applying position. Connector body and cover magazines are disposed adjacent to the connector applying position. A movable connector holding member includes spring biased jaws for releasably holding a connector body and cover spaced apart on opposite sides of a cable insertion slot. The connector holding member is moved from a connector loading position to the connector applying position wherein power actuated retractable rams are operable to apply a connector to a predetermined length of cable.

Inventors: Robert B. Senior, Frederick Karasinski
  • Patent number: 4174560
Abstract: A portable manually operated tool for applying multicontact connectors to flexible flat cable includes a pair of pivoted jaws which include respective connector body and cover holding members. The jaws are opened and closed by manually actuated handles including a locking toggle mechanism. The connector holding members include cooperating alignment guides and position stops. One of the connector holding members is mounted for limited movement on one of the jaws to provide for engagement of the alignment guides and to provide even distribution of the clamping force on the connector. The tool also includes a retractable cable cutter and positioning stop as well as a cable alignment and support tray.

  • Patent number: 4099428
Abstract: Apparatus for cutting and insulation stripping of twisted conductor wire pairs comprises a wire feed mechanism for feeding predetermined lengths of twisted wire pairs into clamping mechanism including a rotatable clamp operable to untwist a predetermined portion of a wire pair. Movable cams operate to position two wires of the pair whereby dual sets of insulation cutting blades, cooperable with the cams, move in to cut preselected lengths of insulation from the trailing end of a wire pair and the leading end of the next wire pair to be formed. Wire cutting blades operate in unison with the insulation cutting blades to cut the wire pair between the respective sets of insulation cuts. Carriage mechanism is operable to move the wire clamps apart to strip the cut insulation from the respective trailing and leading ends of the wire pairs.
