  • Publication number: 20100068724
Abstract: The present invention provides protein-based biomarkers and biomarker combinations that are useful in qualifying ovarian cancer status as well as endometrical cancer status in a patient. In particular, it has been found that hepcidin is a biomarker for both ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer and that a panel of biomarkers, including hepcidin, transthyretin and optionally other markers are useful to classify a subject sample as ovarian cancer or non-ovarian cancer. The biomarkers can be detected by SELDI mass spectrometry.

  • Patent number: 7438024
Abstract: A wood-burning boiler is provided, comprising a combustion chamber having a first air intake, and being adapted for holding combustible wood. An exhaust chamber is fluidly coupled to the combustion chamber, and is adapted to receive burnt gases from the combustion chamber. A preheat chamber is included, having a second air intake, and the preheat chamber is fluidly coupled to the combustion chamber and is conductively proximate to the exhaust chamber such that the burnt gases in the exhaust chamber heat the air within the preheat chamber prior to the air in the preheat chamber entering the combustion chamber. The boiler also includes a water jacket conductively proximate the combustion chamber.

  • Publication number: 20070190550
Abstract: The present invention is directed to the identification of markers that can be used to determine whether tumors are sensitive or resistant to a therapeutic agent. The present invention is also directed to the identification of therapeutic targets. The invention features a number of “sensitivity markers.” These are markers that are expressed in most or all cell lines that are sensitive to treatment with an agent and which are not expressed (or are expressed at a rather low level) in cells that are resistant to treatment with that agent. The invention also features a number of “resistance markers.” These are markers that are expressed in most or all cell lines that are resistant to treatment with an agent and which are not expressed (or are expressed at a rather low level) in cells that are sensitive to treatment with that agent.

  • Patent number: 6700232
Abstract: A solenoid valve achieves high reliability and small size with fine tolerance. The solenoid valve having a valve housing, an electromagnet composed of a coil, a yoke and a clapper armature having at least a first valve seat, and a sealing element which can be actuated by the clapper armature and which co-operates with the first valve seat. The yoke has yoke pins and the clapper armature is magnetically and pivotally connecting with one of the yoke pins at the end thereof that is remote from the sealing element. The clapper armature is guided through the coil.
