Patent number: 9940804Abstract: The invention integrates hardware and software for sensing, communications, data storage and control into a protection module that is sufficiently small and inexpensive to be attached directly to individual objects, such as musical instruments, and the inventory of stores and museums. Sensors monitor environmental factors, such as temperature and humidity, and accelerometers alert owners to unwanted motion, such as theft or misuse. Sensed data is stored locally and transmitted wirelessly to nonproprietary data receivers, such as smart phones or tablets that generate alerts. In some embodiments the data is forwarded to cloud servers for storage and analysis. Bluetooth communication between the attached module and the data receiver allows large spaces, such as stores and showrooms containing many attached modules to be protected. In some embodiments accelerometers enable finger-tap-controlled recording of musical performance and tuning of the instrument relative to tonal frequencies stored in the module.Type: GrantFiled: December 4, 2014Date of Patent: April 10, 2018Inventors: Robert Bean, Michael Dominick Audi, James Michael Gordon, Jr.

Publication number: 20050228961Abstract: The present invention provides a method for copying data through a virtualized storage system using distributed table driven (I/O) mapping. In a system having a virtual disk (the “original disk”), a persistent mapping table for this virtual disk exists on a controller, and volatile copies of some or all entries in this mapping table are distributed to one or more more mapping agents. The method of the present invention creates a new virtual disk mapping table that has the exact same entries as the mapping table as the original virtual disk. The new snapshot disk then shares the same storage as the original disk, so it is space efficient. Furthermore, creating new snapshot disk involves only copying the contents of the mapping table, not moving data, so the creation is fast. In order to allow multiple virtual disks to share storage segments, writes to either the original virtual disk or the snapshot copy cannot be seen by the other.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 10, 2005Publication date: October 13, 2005Inventors: James Reuter, David Thiel, Richard Wrenn, Robert Bean

Publication number: 20050203874Abstract: A system and method for high performance multi-controller processing is disclosed. Independent Network storage controllers (NSCs) are connected by a high-speed data link. The NSCs control a plurality of storage devices. connected by a Fiber Channel Arbitrated Loop (FCAL). To provide redundancy, for a given logical unit of storage one NSC will function as the primary controller and the other NSC will function as the primary controller and the enhance the efficiency of command-response data transfers between NSCs, mirror memory is correlated with primary memory and named resources are used for command-response data transfers. Methods are disclosed to provide for efficient active mirroring of data.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 18, 2005Publication date: September 15, 2005Inventors: Clark Lubbers, R. Publication number: 20050160243Abstract: A storage system permits virtual storage of user data by implementing a logical disk mapping structure that provides access to user data stored on physical storage media and methods for generating point-in-time copies, or snapshots, of logical disks. A snapshot logical disk is referred to as a predecessor logical disk and the original logical disk is referred to as a successor logical disk. Creating a snapshot involves creating predecessor logical disk mapping data structures and populating the data structures with metadata that maps the predecessor logical disk to the user data stored on physical media. Logical disks include metadata that indicates whether user information is shared between logical disks. Multiple generations of snapshots may be created, and user data may be shared between these generations. Methods are disclosed for maintaining data accuracy when write I/O operations are directed to a logical disk.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 15, 2005Publication date: July 21, 2005Inventors: Clark Lubbers, James Reiser, Anuja Korgaonkar, Randy Roberson, Robert Bean

Publication number: 20050066230Abstract: The present invention includes embodiments that minimize storage space and storage time in storage systems. In particular, the present invention appends additional information to data that will be stored. The contents of the additional information indicate the status of the stored data. Preferably, the additional information is not combined with another type of information so that it directly indicates the status of the stored data. Alternatively, the additional information can be used to determine the status of one or more corresponding data that are not the data to which the additional information is appended.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2003Publication date: March 24, 2005Inventors: Robert Bean, Clark Lubbers, Randy Roberson

Publication number: 20040190309Abstract: A hanging ornament having a central core and a plurality of radiating spires. Each spire is solid and allows light to pass. Within each spire is wiring and a string of small lights. An electrical cord having a plug suitable for connection to local electrical outlets leads to wiring within the core, which in turn provides electricity to a plurality of sockets. Each socket connects one spire to the core and further connects the core wiring to the spire wiring. Each spire may be removed individually and replaced should the lights within malfunction or the spire become broken. This also aids space saving storage of the invention. In embodiments, the lights of the spire may be mini lights, sub-miniature lights, light emitting diodes, high intensity light emitting diodes or combinations thereof.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2003Publication date: September 30, 2004Inventors: Kevin Lynn Bixler, Deanna Gail Bixler, Keith Robert Bean
