  • Patent number: 9866617
Abstract: A communication system is adapted to provide access to application information on an application server utilizing a specific one of multiple radio access types. Access is provided via an access network using an access bearer. The capability of the specifically requested access bearer is sent to the application server to tailor the application information content according to the capability of the specific access bearer. The information content is then transmitted to the requesting device.

  • Patent number: 6427076
Abstract: A method and system in a wireless network system enables at least a portion of a subscriber data record to be accessed and used within an MS. The subscriber data record, which can be stored in an HLR, is divided into a portion related to the wireless network (e.g., for use by an MSC/VLR) and a portion related to the MS. A flag is associated with the portion related to the MS. When the flag is set, the HLR knows that the portion has been altered since the last time it was sent to the MS. Consequently, when a location update is occurring, for example, the HLR sends to the MSC/VLR via a MAP operation both portions when the flag is set. The receiving MSC/VLR forwards the portion related to the MS to the MS using a protocol such as the USSD. The MS includes an application for storing and subsequently accessing the MS-related portion of the subscriber data record. The wireless network can thus control subscriber data in the MS.

  • Patent number: 6330445
Abstract: A system and method are provided for routing of a USSD message directly from an MSC/VLR to an external node. When a mobile station user enters a service code which the mobile station does not recognize as being associated with a known supplementary service, the mobile station forms a USSD message containing the service code which is sent to a MSC/VLR. If the MSC/VLR determines that the service code is one that is associated with an application residing in an external node, then the MSC/VLR routes the USSD message directly to the external node. Various methods and techniques can be used to provide the address of the external node to the MSC/VLR.
