Abstract: The present invention relates to an insulation element for thermal and/or electrical insulation of a rechargeable battery. The insulation element has a first outer layer and a second outer layer, the outer layers being made of an electrically insulating material. Further, the insulation element has at least one intermediate element which is arranged between the outer layers, the intermediate element being made of a textile and/or thermally insulating material, in particular a nonwoven. According to a first aspect, the insulation element has a central region which is arranged between edge regions of the insulation element, wherein the outer layers are connected to each other in the central region and wherein the central region is arranged between two different sections of the intermediate element or between two intermediate elements. According to a further aspect, a thickness of the insulation element is reduced in a central region.
