Abstract: An optical disc (2) is provided with a memory chip (60) mounted thereon, the memory chip containing session information. Also, an optical disc drive apparatus (1) for reading optical information from optical discs is described, the optical disc drive apparatus being capable of reading (step 303) session information from said memory chip and using this information when accessing the optical disc. Also, an optical disc drive apparatus for writing optical information into optical discs is described, the optical disc drive apparatus being capable of reading (step 403) session information from said memory chip and using this information when accessing the optical disc, the optical disc drive apparatus being capable of storing (step 407) session information into said memory chip after having performed (step 406) a write operation.
