Publication number: 20060125440Abstract: A controller for a synchronous motor, the controller being operable in use to receive from sensor means coupled to a synchronous motor actual angular displacement signals representative of angular displacements from a reference orientation of a rotor of a synchronous motor, to transmit the actual angular displacement signals to a controllable alternating current (ac) supply for the motor, periodically to measure one or more parameters related to the torque of a synchronous motor, and between transmissions of the actual angular displacement signals, to derive from the actual angular displacement signals and measured parameters at least one estimated angular displacement signal representative of an estimated angular displacement from a reference orientation of a rotor of a synchronous motor, to enable the controller to cause to flow between the supply and a synchronous motor a generally sinusoidal current that is synchronised to the angular displacement of the rotor from the reference orientation.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 6, 2003Publication date: June 15, 2006Applicant: Cambridge Consultants LimitedInventors: Benjamin Gordon, Robert Bower

Publication number: 20050124142Abstract: A method for the transposed splitting of ion cut materials. Getters are formed and selectively introduced into a solid material. In addition, atoms are introduced into the solid material at a location that is offset spatially from the locating of the getters. The atoms introduced into the solid material are then transported to the location of the getters where they will then condense in the region of the getters. As a result, then any expunged layer that is formed by ion splitting as result of the atoms being introduced into the solid material will follow the contour of the location of the getters, and will thus be transposed from the initial location of the atoms introduced into the solid material.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 20, 2004Publication date: June 9, 2005Inventor: Robert Bower

Publication number: 20040139494Abstract: The invention relates generally to transgenic plants that are resistant to BYDV infection through the expression of modified forms of messenger RNA (mRNA) that encodes a viral replicase. The method comprises the step of transforming a modified replicase nucleic acid molecule into a plant cell, wherein the expression of said replicase nucleic acid molecule results I the expression of a translationally-altered RNA molecule which confers to said plant resistance against infection with BYDV.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2004Publication date: July 15, 2004Inventors: Ronchang Yang, Robert Bower, Kirsi Lehto, Teemu Tapani Juntila, Eija Pehu

Patent number: 5933646Abstract: A software manager enables a computer user to administer software elements within a computer operating system. The software manager comprises a configuration database storing information including a prevailing state and a dependency listing for each of the software components within the system. The software manager also comprises a user interface which allows the computer user to view the stored information and permits the user to specify changes to the prevailing states. Finally, the software manager comprises a software manager server which communicates with the user interface and the configuration database, effects the user specified changes, and updates the stored information to reflect those changes. A user of the software manager can readily obtain an overall "picture" of a prevailing system configuration, use that picture to make intelligent decisions with respect to system modification, and thereby administer the operating system environment in a seamless, efficient, and robust manner.Type: GrantFiled: May 10, 1996Date of Patent: August 3, 1999Assignee: Apple Computer, Inc.Inventors: B. Patent number: 5278542Abstract: A multicolor display system comprised of a matrix of light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Each display dot or pixel is comprised of one red LED and one green LED. The display data is stored in a selected one or more discrete locations of a random access memory as a bit map, depending upon the desired display color. Each memory location is associated with a particular primary color "field" (e.g., red or green). The bit map indicates which of the LEDs is ON and which is OFF in order to display selected data. The data associated with each field is displayed sequentially during a display cycle so that the relative mixture of red fields and green fields determines the resulting display color. The duty cycle of each LED is therefore controlled in software, which reduces the need for complex hardware such as voltage drivers and counters needed in prior art multicolor display systems.Type: GrantFiled: July 27, 1992Date of Patent: January 11, 1994Assignee: Texas Digital Systems, Inc.Inventors: George C. Smith, Robert Bower, Jr.
