  • Patent number: 8833681
Abstract: The current invention is directed to a method and apparatus for defibrillating cellulose fibers achieved through single or multiple passes of raw or pre-processed cellulose fiber slurry with a preferred solid material consistency range of 35% to 55% through twin-screw fiber processing machines. During this processing operation fiber slurries are optionally further enhanced with additional fiber and mineral additives to optimize performance of the material for specific end purposes. The hyper defibrillated fiber slurry produced can be defined as one reaching a Schopper-Riegler (SR) level between 75 SR and 85 SR and/or producing a pressed, dried board with a density of preferably at least 850 kg/m3.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 23, 2010
Date of Patent: September 16, 2014
    Assignee: BASF SE
Inventors: Karnik Tarverdi, Trevor W R Dean, Robert Bramsteidl, Luca Achilli
  • Patent number: 8752776
Abstract: The invention according to the present invention relates to the manufacture of paper and or boards and/or binding agents and a method and apparatus related to the same by providing for the defibrillation of cellulose fibers into a form in which the same can be subsequently sued to form the finished product directly or can be used to bind other materials together and then be formed into the finished product. The apparatus includes a twin screw conveyor through the material and liquid passes to be processed.

  • Patent number: 6379594
Abstract: A process for producing a work piece includes providing raw material which is cellulose-containing and fibrous, which is not any part of a tree, and which is selected from the group consisting of, crude plant fibers, pure cellulose, waste paper, and waste cardboard; adding water to the raw material; finely chopping the raw material in a machine by continuously grinding the raw material with a total energy expenditure of at least 0.
