  • Patent number: 9481797
Abstract: A pigment mixture comprising (a) pigment particles, (b) colloidal spacer particles dispersed on surfaces of the pigment particles, and (c) carrier particles, wherein the pigment particles with colloidal spacer particles are dispersed on surfaces of the carrier particles. A pigment mixture of titanium dioxide pigment particles having colloidal silica spacer particles on surfaces of the titanium dioxide, the titanium dioxide and colloidal silica attached to surfaces of diatomaceous earth carrier particles, provides improved optical efficiency of the pigment and improved retention in a paper fiber matrix.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 9, 2011
Date of Patent: November 1, 2016
    Assignee: Cristal USA Inc.

  • Patent number: 6656261
Abstract: The present invention provides titanium dioxide pigments with improved gloss and/or durability. The titanium dioxide pigments are made by treating titanium dioxide with a plurality of metal salts under conditions suitable to form the titanium dioxide pigment having improved gloss and/or durability, wherein at least one metal salt is capable of providing a monovalent anion. Preferred pigments of the present invention are substantially-sulfate free.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 9, 2001
Date of Patent: December 2, 2003
    Assignee: Millennium Inorganic Chemicals, Inc.
