  • Patent number: 8064291
Abstract: An embodiment of device for generating an acoustic signal in a fluid includes an engine operable to repeat a thermodynamic process to vibrate a membrane of the engine to generate an acoustic signal having more than one period. The thermodynamic process includes heating mass inside a chamber of an engine to generate pressure inside the chamber; in response to generating the pressure, moving in a first direction a portion of a membrane of the engine; removing mass from inside the chamber to decrease the pressure inside the chamber; and in response to decreasing the pressure inside the chamber, moving the membrane portion in a second direction. Because the engine repeats the thermodynamic process, the engine can generate and sustain an acoustic signal for a significant amount of time.

  • Patent number: 8061934
Abstract: In one exemplary embodiment, curved sheet pile is driven underneath an existing conduit using a pile driver guided hydraulically by an excavator or other heavy machinery. By vibrating the curved sheet piles, the soil is placed in suspension, which allows the piles to be directed through the soil along an arcuate path that has a curvature that substantially matches the radius of curvature of the piles. Once the pile is positioned as desired, each individual pile sheet can be welded to one another to form a unitary structure. In one exemplary embodiment, the curved sheet pile is inserted beneath a conduit using a vibratory pile driver that rotates about a fixed pivot element on an excavator or other heavy machine for positioning the pile driver to advance the curved sheet pile along a fixed arc.

  • Patent number: 8064100
Abstract: A system is employed to reveal a watermark in a document. A watermark generator is utilized to select the placement and at least one colorant combination of an image and at least one colorant combination for a watermark on a document, where the at least one colorant combination of the image and the watermark form a metameric pair. A printing system receives data from the watermark generator and places the image and the watermark on the document. A decoder comprising a narrow band illumination element is selected or tuned to a wavelength corresponding to the colorant combinations utilized by the printing system to reveal the watermark placed thereon.

  • Patent number: 8064581
Abstract: A set of multiple prepaid calling cards that are associated with a single account is disclosed. A predetermined amount of minutes is associated with the set of cards. Cards within the set can be used simultaneously and extract minutes from the account in predetermined increments. Each card can use the same Personal Identification Number (PIN) or each card can have its own unique PIN. In some instances, any card in the set can recharge the account, (i.e., add more minutes to the account), or in some embodiments, only a control card can add minutes to the account.

  • Patent number: 8060967
Abstract: A rotating hair brush with a fins or similar implement projected into the moving path of the brush bristles. The fins automatically remove the hair/fur from the brush bristles. The amount of exposed bristles can be varied and completely concealed inside of the housing. The brush core can contain the batteries and/or motor to reduce the overall size of the assembly. A suction device can be attached to remove dislodged debris. The overall structure contains all of the components such as the motor, power source, brush and hair removal fins in a single housing. • Patent number: 8061189
Abstract: For monitoring a combustion process in an internal combustion engine wherein a fuel-air mixture is ignited with a high-frequency plasma it is provided to determine the impedance of the plasma. A high-frequency signal is applied to the resonator with a capacity that is so low that no arcing-over forms on the electrodes and the high-frequency current and the high-frequency voltage are measured. The impedance of the ignited mixture is determined from the high-frequency current and the high-frequency voltage.

  • Patent number: 8065225
Abstract: A computer-implemented method for processing an application for a mortgage loan, such that the mortgage loan is configured to include a set of financial lending requirements and further include certain financial lending risks associated with financing the mortgage loan. The steps of the method include receiving the mortgage loan application, processing the mortgage loan application through an electronic database, applying the set of financial lending requirements to the mortgage loan application, generating a listing of at least one eligible lender or loan product based on the application of the financial lending requirements to the mortgage loan application, and submitting the mortgage loan application to the eligible lender, the mortgage loan being configured such that the financial lending risks are configured to be absorbed by a secondary mortgage market investor.

  • Patent number: 8062314
Abstract: A medical method includes sliding two substantially straight unconnected arms over a fold of body tissue such that a first arm contacts a first portion of the fold and a second arm contacts a second portion. Then, each arm is bent completely through the fold such that both of the arms compress the portions of the fold into contact with each other. Another method includes releasably coupling first and second substantially linear arms to a bridge, each of the arms having a substantially straight sliding portion and a bendable piercing portion. The arms are slid over opposing sides of two body tissue layers, the first arm sliding over the first layer and the second over the second layer. While the sliding portions of the arms remain substantially straight, each piercing portion is bent completely through the adjacent layer and halfway through the other layer to compress the two layers together.

  • Patent number: 8065002
Abstract: A method for gathering, creating and utilizing signal-processed ECG and acoustic signals for assessing, via presenting a highly intuitive, multi-component, common-time-base, real-time output display of selected (1) timing, (2) relative timing, and (3) other significant heart-behavioral elements relevant to such an assessment, a pacemaker patient's hemodynamic condition. The method offers an important option and capability for automatic, and/or manual, medical-treatment and/or pacemaker-control feedback, in real time, to improve a pacemaker patient's hemodynamic status, with such a patient's resulting hemodynamic-behavioral/status changes caused by such feedback being viewable immediately in the invention's produced output display.

  • Patent number: 8062503
Abstract: The present invention is directed to the upgrading of heavy hydrocarbon feedstock that utilizes a short residence pyrolytic reactor operating under conditions that cracks and chemically upgrades the feedstock. The process of the present invention provides for the preparation of a partially upgraded feedstock exhibiting reduced viscosity and increased API gravity. This process selectively removes metals, salts, water and nitrogen from the feedstock, while at the same time maximizes the yield of the liquid product, and minimizes coke and gas production. Furthermore, this process reduces the viscosity of the feedstock in order to permit pipeline transport, if desired, of the upgraded feedstock with little or no addition of diluents.

  • Patent number: 8064771
Abstract: A system, apparatus and method are described for deployment of a control loop between optical or electro-optical modules and a multiplexing module to provide a desired power profile of banded optical channel groups. The power output characteristics of the optical or electro-optical modules, the properties of the transmission paths of the banded optical channel groups, and other factors may be analyzed to allow the control loop to achieve the desired power profile on the banded optical channel groups. The control loop may adjust the output power on the optical or electro-optical modules so that the banded optical channel groups are delivered to an optical component, such as an optical multiplexer or photo-detector, having a particular optical power profile.
