  • Publication number: 20250251507
Abstract: Techniques and apparatus for extending a range of a ranging procedure performed using ultra-wide band (UWB) are described. An example technique includes receiving, by a first network entity, control information for a ranging procedure via a non-ultra-wide band (non-UWB) communication protocol. The ranging procedure is performed by the first network entity with a second network entity based on the control information and via an ultra-wide band (UWB) communication protocol.

  • Publication number: 20250247802
Abstract: Disclosed are a system and method for synchronizing a first cluster of anchors with a second cluster of anchors so that anchors in the first and second clusters operate on a time base that is nearly the same among the anchors. An anchor acting in the first cluster starts with a first time-synchronization event, such as a poll request, and awaits responses from anchors in the first cluster. Upon receiving the first synchronization event, one of the anchors in the first cluster relays the event to one of the anchors in the second cluster. That anchor then performs a second time-synchronization event and awaits responses from the anchors in the second cluster. Relaying the synchronization event is a single, short message employing two-way ranging. The relaying avoids transmitting many messages among the anchors, resulting in a more accurate time base among the anchors.

  • Publication number: 20250247801
Abstract: Techniques relating to ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless communications include identifying a plurality of clusters for UWB time difference of arrival (TDOA) ranging, where each cluster includes an initiating anchor to transmit a plurality of UWB messages to wireless devices for TDOA ranging. These techniques further include forming a first supercluster including a first two or more clusters, and a second supercluster including a second two or more clusters, based on determining that a respective initiating anchor associated with each of the two or more clusters in the first supercluster is radio frequency (RF) isolated from respective recipient anchors associated with each of the two or more clusters in the second supercluster. The techniques further include conducting TDOA ranging using the plurality of clusters, based on scheduling transmission of UWB messages in parallel from initiating anchors in both the first and second superclusters.

  • Publication number: 20250240612
Abstract: The present disclosure describes a system that provides different levels of location accuracy to different types of devices using different types of location technologies (e.g., RSSI, FTM, UWB, Bluetooth). An access point includes a memory and a processor communicatively coupled to the memory. The processor provides a location determination for a client device according to a first accuracy level and in response to receiving, from the client device, a request for a second accuracy level of location determination greater than the first accuracy level, determines a location device that provides the second accuracy level. The processor also communicates, to the client device, a report indicating a neighboring access point and the location device.

  • Publication number: 20250212011
Abstract: Techniques for improved pattern and receive diversity in wireless systems are provided. Orientation data for a first access point (AP) of a plurality of APs in an ultra-wideband (UWB) deployment is accessed. An antenna configuration for the first AP is selected based at least in part on the orientation data. A first clock synchronization frame received, from a second AP and based on the antenna configuration, at a first timestamp, the first clock synchronization frame comprising a second timestamp. A clock offset is generated based on the first and second timestamps, and ranging is performed with one or more client devices, in conjunction with the second AP, based at least in part on the clock offset.

  • Publication number: 20250062790
Abstract: A system and a method to delegate out-of-band (OOB) management of a shared ultra-wideband (UWB) clock. The system may comprise a tagged device with a UWB tag and multiple anchors. The tagged device may be configured to establish at least one OOB communication link with at least one anchor, transmit UWB compatibility information to multiple anchors, establish a UWB communication links with the anchors, and exchange OOB synchronization parameters and UWB synchronization parameters with the anchors. Further, the tagged device may be configured to define new instructions for ranging round operations based at least in part upon the OOB synchronization parameters and the UWB synchronization parameters, update existing instructions with the new instructions in the ranging round operations, and perform the ranging round in accordance with the updated instructions.
