Publication number: 20260207851Abstract: Plunger assemblies (20) including a plunger sleeve (34), a plunger rod (22), and an axial protrusion (30) disposed within an inner cavity (40) of the plunger sleeve. Application of a distal force onto the plunger via the plunger rod causes the axial protrusion to contact and apply pressure to an engagement surface (50) in the inner cavity. The engagement surface is configured to receive distal force from the end of the axial protrusion. This causes the plunger to elongate and slightly constrict, thus reducing break loose force and facilitating transition from storage mode to dispensing mode of the plunger.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2023Publication date: July 23, 2026Applicant: W. Patent number: 12090305Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a medical delivery device that includes a barrel having an inner surface, a plunger rod having a distal end inserted within the barrel, and a stopper attached to the distal end of the plunger rod and contacting at least a portion of the inner surface of the barrel. In at least one embodiment, the inner surface is hydrophilic. The stopper may include an elastomeric body, one or more fluoropolymer layers, and two or more ribs laminated with the one or more fluoropolymer layers. In some embodiments, the contact width between at least one rib having a sealing surface and the portion of the inner surface of the barrel measured at a compressibility of greater than about 7.9% of the stopper is less than about 1.0 mm.Type: GrantFiled: May 3, 2022Date of Patent: September 17, 2024Assignee: W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc.Inventors: Greg Rusch, Robert C. Basham

Publication number: 20240001036Abstract: Methods and associated structures for translating a syringe stopper though a lubricant free tube, such as an insertion tube, syringe barrel or cartridge tube, during the assembly and/or use of the syringe or auto-injector. The stopper in a non-compressed state includes a proximal end, a plunger rod engaging cavity, and a sealing region having a length spaced from the proximal end by a sealing location length. The sealing region includes at least one rib having at least one microgroove within a polymer barrier, the at least one microgroove having an initial width. By the disclosed methods and structures, a translation force biased towards the outer diameter of the stopper is applied to the stopper using force concentrators. The translation force with force concentrators is sufficient to translate the stopper though the tube in a compressed state with a reduction of increase in the initial width of the at least one microgroove when compared to not using force concentrators.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 19, 2021Publication date: January 4, 2024Inventors: Tyler N. Hinkle, Robert C. Basham, David T. Morse
