  • Patent number: 5443290
Abstract: An expansion joint includes first and second conduits connected by an expansion joint element. The second conduit has a liner portion which protrudes into the first conduit, so that the expansion joint element, first conduit, second conduit and liner portion together define an expansion joint cavity. A cartridge is located within the expansion joint cavity and is affixed to an end portion of the first conduit. The cartridge has a groove which faces the liner portion and houses a ring which slides within the groove while maintaining sliding contact with the liner portion of the second conduit. The outer diameter of the groove is preferably larger than an outer diameter of the ring to allow lateral movement of the first and second conduits relative to one another. Either the expansion joint cavity or the cartridge groove may be provided with a purge fluid inlet to prevent the intrusion of the service fluid and its associated contaminants into the expansion joint cavity.

  • Patent number: 4827806
Abstract: A transmission control has a plurality of solenoid controlled hydraulic valves that are selectively operable to control the establishment of various drive ratios in a six speed transmission. A logic valve, comprised of two spool valves and a solenoid, is disposed between the solenoid controlled hydraulic valves and some of the friction drives in the transmission which establish the various drive ratios. The logic valves are operable to establish the fourth ratio if an electrical malfunction occurs during operation in the fourth or fifth ratios, or to establish the fifth ratio if electrical malfunction occurs while operating in the sixth ratio, or to establish the third ratio if an electrical malfunction occurs while operating in the first, second or third forward speed ratios. In the alternative, the logic valves can be controlled to establish fourth ratio whenever an electrical malfunction occurs when the transmission is operating in the second through fifth ratios.

  • Patent number: 4344480
Abstract: Rows of heat exchange tubes are supported by transversely disposed support strips having a plurality of U-shaped members interconnected end to end in a manner so that said strips act as a structural member supporting the weight of the tubes and additional support elements from all rows above a given row. Each leg of each U-shaped member converges upwardly or downwardly at an angle of about 8.degree. to 15.degree. with the vertical.

  • Patent number: 4320566
Abstract: A heat exchanger is retrofitted by removing old heat exchange tubes. If there is no access passage into the shell, an access hole is cut in a wall of the shell. Modules preformed from zig-zag elements are introduced through the access passage and assembled into a tube support panel within the shell between adjacent support plates. The heat exchanger is retubed so as to support the new tubes by the existing support plates and by said panels.

  • Patent number: 4255841
Abstract: A condenser shell for a large steam condenser is installed at a building site of a power plant without any tube bundles. One or more years later, the tube bundles are designed, constructed and installed in the shell.

  • Patent number: 4210202
Abstract: Rows of heat exchange tubes are supported by transversely disposed support strips having a plurality of V-shaped members interconnected end to end in a manner so that said strips act as a structural member supporting the weight of the tubes and additional support elements from all rows above a given row. Each leg of each V-shaped member has a generally triangular tab bendable out of the plane of its associated leg.

  • Patent number: 4194671
Abstract: An L-shaped member is used for positioning a plurality of tube support plates at predetermined spaced locations on the L-shaped member with the tube holes of the support plates aligned. The L-shaped member is portable and includes a plurality of longitudinally separated members for locating the tube support plates with a predetermined spacing between each tube support plate.
