  • Publication number: 20120170260
Abstract: This is directed to a LED light fixture having a shaped light guide array with a CPC reflector for directing light off-axis, and methods for constructing the same. A LED light fixture includes a LED module providing light and an elongated light guide array placed adjacent to the LED module. The elongated light guide array can include a curved outer surface through which light is emitted into an environment. To further control the output of light, and to direct light off-axis, the light guide array can include a CPC reflector disposed around a boundary or periphery of the light guide array. The CPC reflector can be angled such that light is directed at angles above a cut-off angle by which the reflector is rotated about a focus.

  • Publication number: 20120155116
Abstract: This is directed to a LED light fixture having a light guide array with a retroreflective element used to redirect light into the light guide array, and methods for constructing the same. A LED light fixture includes a LED module providing light and an elongated light guide array placed adjacent to the LED module. Light emitted by the LED module propagates through the light guide array and is redirected by the light guide array into the environment of the fixture. To prevent light from propagating through the end of the light guide array opposite the LED module, the light guide array can include angled facets forming a retroreflective element at an end of the light guide array for redirecting light back into the LGA.

  • Patent number: 5055892
Abstract: A lamp has a reflective cup with a light emitting device in the bottom of the cup. A transparent material having an index of refraction n fills the cup and extends to a hemispherical surface with radius R and an equator parallel to the opening of the cup. The reflective walls of the cup project substantially all of the light within a cutoff cone having an included half angle equal to the Brewster's angle of the transparent material. The center of the hemispherical lens surface is spaced from the rim of the opening of the cup a distance R/n. Thus, the opening of the cup is the locus of aplanatic points of the equator if the hemisphere. Most rays from within the cup are incident on the hemispherical lens surface at no more than the complement of the Brewster's angle. Thus, minimal light losses occur at the interface between the transparent medium and air.

  • Patent number: 5001609
Abstract: The principles of non-imaging optics, rather than imaging optics, are used to provide a high power LED illumination lamp that has a specified limited viewing angle. A compound parabolic flux extractor extracts and concentrates light emitted by an LED chip and a light pipe continues the concentration into the specified viewing angle. A lens or a diffusant may be used to modify the light output of the lamp. A light constructed as an array of the lamps is suitable for use as an automobile external light such as a center high mounted stop light.

  • Patent number: 4828184
Abstract: A silicon compound nozzle has two generally planar parallel plates with offset openings coupled by a shear gap. Fluid flow in the shear gap is generally parallel to the plates and increases fluid dispersion.

  • Patent number: 4768751
Abstract: A valve assembly for controlling fluid flow includes a valve plate and a nozzle plate which are not attached to each other but can be moved into and out of contact with each other. The valve plate has an opening for passing an actuator and fluid. A nozzle plate has an opening for passing fluid and the opening is aligned with a mesa on the valve plate which can seal the nozzle orifice. The actuator separates the nozzle plate from the valve plate to permit fluid flow and a spring means brings the nozzle plate into a closed position against the valve plate to stop fluid flow.
