  • Patent number: 11440483
Abstract: A system and method that pertain to a rotating vehicle display unit that can automatically or manually rotate between landscape and portrait orientations, depending on the particular display format or media being shown to the vehicle occupants. The rotating vehicle display unit uses an electro-mechanical rotating and locking mechanism with smart fluid, such as magnetorheological fluid (MR), to facilitate easy and precise rotational movement between different display orientations. The rotating vehicle display unit may be coupled to a corresponding human-machine interface (HMI) that responds to the different display orientations and helps facilitate easy transition from one orientation to another in order to optimize the particular display format or media being shown at that time.

  • Patent number: 11361559
Abstract: A method for cargo management in a motor vehicle includes identifying the motor vehicle. The method gathers dimensional information of at least one object and gathers internal dimensions of a volume within the motor vehicle. The dimensional information of the at least one object is compared to the internal dimensions of the volume, and feedback is provided to a user. The feedback is one of: yes, the at least one object will fit; or no, the at least one object will not fit.

  • Publication number: 20200372315
Abstract: A system and method for carrying out a vehicle action based on a state of a sensor tag that is attachable to an asset or a personal item. The method includes: configuring the sensor tag to be associated with the asset, wherein the configuring step includes receiving asset attribute information concerning the asset; obtaining sensor tag state information regarding a state of the sensor tag, wherein the sensor tag state information includes information received from the sensor tag and/or information concerning the presence or absence of the sensor tag at the vehicle; detecting a vehicle trigger event, wherein the vehicle trigger event is an occurrence of a vehicle trigger, and the vehicle trigger specifies one or more conditions pertaining to the state of the sensor tag; and carrying out a vehicle action at the vehicle in response to the detection of the vehicle trigger event.

  • Patent number: 10166914
Abstract: A display article includes a film formed from a stretchable plastic and including a first plurality of micro-light emitting diodes and a second plurality of micro-light emitting diodes disposed adjacent to the first plurality and embedded in the plastic. The article includes a substrate having a first portion and a second portion, and a tear seam disposed between the first and second portions. The film is attached to the substrate such that the tear seam is located between the first and second pluralities. A component includes the display article and an airbag disposed adjacent the substrate and configured for transitioning between a stowed position in which the airbag does not extend through the substrate, and a deployed position in which the airbag extends through the substrate and the film. The first and second portions are separated at the tear seam when the airbag is disposed in the deployed position.

  • Patent number: 9751380
Abstract: An air vent assembly for use with a vehicle having a heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system and a controller includes an air vent and an HVAC control head. The control head partially or fully surrounds the air vent and includes HVAC setting selection mechanisms. Activation of a respective one of the selection mechanisms causes a desired setting of the HVAC system to be communicated to the controller to request a particular control setting of the HVAC system. The control head may include a bezel adjacent to the selection mechanisms and display screens which flank the vent. The control head may be a touch screen device having a touch control surface, and may be operable for displaying the HVAC setting selection mechanisms via the touch control surface. A vehicle includes a body defining a vehicle interior, the air circulation device, the controller, and the air vent assembly.
