  • Publication number: 20030236099
Abstract: Speech recognition in mobile processor-based devices may be improved by using location information. Location information may be derived from on-board hardware or from information provided remotely. The location information may assist in a variety of ways in improving speech recognition. For example, the ability to adapt to the local ambient conditions, including reverberation and noise characteristics, may be enhanced by location information. In some embodiments, pre-developed models or context information may be provided from a remote server for given locations.

  • Publication number: 20030187990
Abstract: A method is described for maintaining a seamless communication session while switching devices. A user requests a communication session with a colleague device. The request for a communication session triggers a communication server to establish a first connection with the first device, and a second connection with the colleague device. When the user requests a switch from the first communication device to a second communication device, the request triggers the communication server to verify that the user of the second communication device is the same as the user of the first communication device. If the users are the same, then the communication server establishes a third connection with the second communication device, and then terminates the first connection with the first communication device. The second connection between the communication server and the colleague device is maintained such that entire process is transparent to the colleague.

  • Publication number: 20030163579
Abstract: A method is described for adaptive load-balancing and graceful termination of access points in a network having a plurality of access points. The method includes determining a need to reduce a load of a first access point, and increasing a beacon interval corresponding to the first access point in order to detract clients. Correspondingly, beacon intervals for other access points may be reduced in order to attract more clients.

  • Publication number: 20030104819
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and signal-bearing media for determining a presence rule for a mobile device and updating presence information for the mobile device when the presence rule is met. The presence rule may have a condition and a corresponding state. When the condition is met, the corresponding state is saved in the presence information. The presence information may also contain reachability information for the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20030060217
Abstract: In one aspect of the invention is a method for emulating push functionality in a cellular data network. Data is detected for a client on one of several servers in a cellular network. In response to detecting data, a paging address for the client is determined. Using a paging functionality, a page is sent to the client. The client can then connect to the network to receive the data.

  • Publication number: 20030058832
Abstract: A mobile device includes network interfaces for communicating wirelessly with two different networks. The mobile device may operate as a gateway between the two networks by switching between the two network interfaces in order to pass information from one network intended for the other network.

  • Publication number: 20030023691
Abstract: Routing a message (e.g., text message, voice message, etc.) based on the accessibility of an intended recipient's associated communication channels (e.g., email, fax, instant message, cell, landline, etc.) may involve discovering information relating to an accessibility state of one or more communication channels associated with the message recipient; maintaining a data repository comprising the discovered accessibility state information; and routing a message to the message recipient based on information in the data repository.

  • Publication number: 20020176579
Abstract: According to an embodiment, a method of providing location-based services to a wireless device using a hotspot access point is provided comprising establishing a connection between the wireless device and the hotspot access point, and providing information associated with the physical location of the hotspot access point to the wireless device. There is also provided a method of securing services provided through a hotspot access point, a method of billing services provided through a hotspot access point and a method of providing access to an application through a hotspot access point.

  • Patent number: 6243793
Abstract: A method and apparatus for arbitrating access to a shared memory is disclosed. A memory marking unit in the shared memory is read to determine whether the shared memory is currently being accessed by another processor. If the shared memory is not being accessed by another processor, a processor seeking access is granted access. The processor changes the contents of the memory marking unit to lock out other processors from the shared memory. The last task performed on the shared memory space is identified and used to determine whether a task with high priority exists. If a task with high priority exists, the task is performed. If a task with high priority does not exist, the processor having access to the shared memory space accesses the shared memory space for its intended purpose. After the processor is finished accessing the shared memory space, it records the identity of the task performed and unlocks the shared memory space.

  • Patent number: 5940513
Abstract: A method and apparatus for access control in a computer system are disclosed. A storage unit receives a block of data having an encrypted executable image and a signature component. A separation unit coupled to the storage unit separates the signature component from the encrypted executable image. A decryption unit coupled to the separation unit decrypts the encrypted executable image using the signature component as a key. This yields an decrypted executable program. An identification unit coupled to the decryption unit locates an identification mark in the decrypted executable program and identifies a composite key assigned to the identification mark. A signature generation unit coupled to the identification unit performs a keyed cryptographic hash algorithm on the decrypted executable program using the composite key as a key.
