  • Patent number: 9765643
Abstract: A bi-directional auxiliary lubrication system which allows lubricant to be supplied to moving engine components after a loss of lubricant pressure from a main lubricant tank is disclosed. In a gas turbine engine, the lubrication system may siphon compressed air from a compressor to draw lubricant from a reserve lubricant tank and deliver that lubricant to the engine components. The same conduits used by the lubrication during normal operations are utilized in an opposite direction to provide the flow of lubricant from the reserve lubricant tank during such auxiliary or low-lubricant-pressure operations.

Date of Patent: September 19, 2017
    Assignee: UNITED TECHNOLOGIES CORPORATION
Inventors: Robert C. Stutz, Enzo DiBenedetto
  • Patent number: 9366156
Abstract: A lubrication system for a fan drive gear system includes a lubricant supply and a collection conduit for drawing lubricant from within the lubricant supply. The collection conduit includes a first opening and a second opening for withdrawing lubricant and supplying lubricant to a pump. During normal operation lubricant may be drawn through both first and second openings. During negative G operating conditions a fitting at the second opening blocks the second opening to prevent air from being drawn into the lubricant system and communicated to the pump.

  • Publication number: 20150337731
Abstract: A pump assembly includes a first stage including a first inlet in communication with a first cavity, and a first pumping means disposed within the first cavity. A second stage includes a second inlet in communication with a second cavity, an outlet in communication with both the first and the second cavity, and a second pumping means disposed within the second cavity. A transfer plate is disposed between the first stage and the second stage. The transfer plate includes a transfer window. The entire transfer window is disposed horizontally above the first pumping means and the second pumping means.

  • Patent number: 4104112
Abstract: Apparatus for concentrating an aqueous solution of higher boiling point organic antifreeze medium includes a casing having a first and second upright legs connected by a third inclined leg. The first leg is open at the upper end to provide an ambient air inlet and includes a spray discharge nozzle, heating coils, an extended evaporation surface and a sump vertically disposed with respect to each other. The second leg constitutes a multistage reflex chamber having a plurality of alternately disposed reflex cooling coils and reclaiming screens of glass fiber cloth, each screen formed in a plurality of zigzag stretches. The third leg connects the first and second legs and is inclined downwardly from the second casing to the first casing to permit migration of liquid to the sump. A pump and conduits are provided to supply liquid from the sump to the discharge nozzle.
