The catalyst is prepared by contacting the chlorofluorocarbon with anhydrous aluminum trichloride in the presence of a metal. The metal is selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, tungsten and combinations thereof.

The catalyst is prepared by contacting the chlorofluorocarbon with anhydrous aluminum trichloride in the presence of a metal. The metal is selected from the group consisting of stainless steel, chromium, manganese, molybdenum, tungsten and combinations thereof.
