Patent number: 8792679Abstract: A face is detected within a camera's field despite inadequate illumination. In various embodiments, multiple images of the inadequately illuminated field of view are obtained and summed into a composite image. The composite image is tone-mapped based on a facial lighting model, and a bounded group of pixels in the tone-mapped image having a lighting distribution indicative of a face is identified. Facial features are resolved within the bounded group of pixels.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 2012Date of Patent: July 29, 2014Assignee: Imprivata, Inc.Inventors: Kuntal Sengupta, Robert Calder

Patent number: 8438885Abstract: The present invention, relates to an apparatus for securing cassettes housed within an automatic teller machine (ATM). The apparatus comprises at least one barrier and a supporting structure for supporting at least one barrier. Each barrier is formed and arranged to be associated with a pair of adjacent cassettes and to be movable between a first position in which the barrier prevents removal of a pair of adjacent cassettes in use of the apparatus along their respective removal paths. The barrier is moveable to a second position in which the barrier prevents removal of one cassette of the pair of adjacent cassettes along its removal path and to a third position in which the barrier prevents removal of the other cassette of the pair of adjacent cassettes along its removal path. In use, only one cassette of a pair of adjacent cassettes is removable along its removal path when the barrier is in the second or third position.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 2009Date of Patent: May 14, 2013Assignee: Scotia Safes LimitedInventor: Paul Robert Calder

Patent number: 7580561Abstract: A compression and de-compression arrangement is provided for a display device having a display memory and a display. The arrangement includes a color processor which reduces the color samples by processing a pair of pixels to produce first and second luminance values and forming first and second output chrominance values from the pair of pixels. The first and second output chrominance values are formed by calculating for each pixel the corresponding U and V chrominance values and forming the first and second chrominance values (U, V) from the average of the values for each pixel. Forming the compressed representation of the color image provides an advantage when recovering the original image, particularly for example where the image contains detail and/or text. The image processing apparatus of the system receives the group of color component signal samples from the display memory and generates first and second output pixels, each comprising three color component values (R, G, B), from each group.Type: GrantFiled: February 7, 2003Date of Patent: August 25, 2009Assignee: Sony United Kingdom LimitedInventors: Keith Robert Calder, Nordine Chaibelaine, Stuart Jonathan Levine
