  • Patent number: 10260356
Abstract: The present disclosure is directed to a nozzle cooling system for a gas turbine engine. An impingement plate is positioned radially inwardly from a radially inner surface of an inner side wall of a nozzle. The impingement plate and the inner side wall collectively define an inner chamber. The impingement plate includes a first portion defining one or more impingement apertures and a second portion defining one or more post-impingement apertures. A duct plate encloses the first portion of the impingement plate. The duct plate, the first portion of the impingement plate, and inner side wall collectively define an outer chamber in fluid communication with the inner chamber through the one or more impingement apertures. Compressed air from the outer chamber flows through the one or more impingement apertures into the inner chamber and exits the inner chamber through the one or more post-impingement apertures.

  • Patent number: 9869194
Abstract: Various embodiments include gas turbine seals and methods of forming such seals. In some cases, a turbine includes: a first arcuate component adjacent to a second arcuate component, each arcuate component including one or more slots located in an end face, each of the one or more slots having a plurality of axial surfaces and radially facing surfaces extending from opposite ends of the axial surfaces and a seal assembly disposed in the slot. The seal assembly including an intersegment seal including a plurality of seal segments defining one or more corner regions. The intersegment seal disposed in a slot defining a high-pressure slot side and a low-pressure slot side, wherein the slot includes a plurality of slot segments. Each of the plurality of seal segments including at least one extended portion to either seal the one or more corner regions on a low-pressure slot side, form a recess in the intersegment seal, or both.

  • Patent number: 6887033
Abstract: The cooling system for the nozzle edges includes a chamber containing a cooling medium. First and second elongated plenums are disposed along opposite side edges of each platform. Inlet passages communicate cooling medium from the chamber into each plenum. Outlet passages from each plenum terminate in outlet holes in the side edges of the platform to cool the gap between adjacent nozzle segments. Passageways communicate with each plenum and terminate in film cooling holes to film cool platform surfaces. In each plenum, the inlet passages are not in direct line-of-sight flow communication with the outlet passages and passageways.
