  • Publication number: 20070291468
Abstract: Lighted refrigerated display case with remote light source comprises a closed container with an interior of the container refrigerated to a temperature below 7 C. The container is thermally insulated from ambient, having internal and external walls. A solid fiber optic luminaire is at least partially mounted within the container, having an elongated side-light emitting portion for emitting light from the side of the luminaire onto contents in an interior of the display case. The side-light emitting portion comprises an extractor of light arranged to preferentially extract light from the luminaire and direct the light in at least one radial direction along the length of the side-light emitting portion to at least one target area of said contents along a longitudinal axis of the side-light emitting portion. A light-delivery system provides light to the fiber optic luminaire, having a light source mounted remotely from the interior of the container.

  • Publication number: 20070247835
Abstract: Lighted display case with remote light source comprises a container having contents for display. A solid fiber optic luminaire is at least partially mounted within the container, having an elongated side-light emitting portion for emitting light from the side of the luminaire onto contents in an interior of the display case. The side-light emitting portion comprises an extractor of light arranged to preferentially extract light from the luminaire and direct the light to at least one target area of said contents. The portion may be rotatable about its own longitudinal axis. A single side-light emitting portion may be arranged to illuminate a target area on one of its lateral sides, and another target area on another lateral side. A single lamp may provide light to first and second luminaires arranged to illuminate a target area on one of its lateral sides, and another target area on another lateral side.

  • Publication number: 20070217205
Abstract: Durable lighting arrangement comprising a housing of generally cylindrical shape with a forward end for emitting light and a rearward end is disclosed. A light-transparent aperture located towards the forward end of the housing. A light-transmitting conduit enters the housing rearwardly of the light-transparent aperture with at least one plate that is mounted to the housing. The plate is mounted perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the housing that has one or more light apertures. The light apertures provide structural reinforcement to the generally forward area of said housing.

  • Patent number: 6591049
Abstract: Light delivery systems/lighting devices include a light distributor and a flexible light emitter. A malleable member adjacent said light emitter is bendable to hold the shape of the light emitter once arranged in a desired position. A protective cover protects the light emitter and/or light distributor from direct contact with contaminants or components which may interfere with proper operation thereof. A handle connected to the light distributor contains a light pipe or rod that provides an interface between the light distributor and a light source conduit which may be inserted into a socket in the handle or connected to a male adaptor mounted in the socket.

  • Patent number: 6504985
Abstract: An illuminated surgical retractor includes a handle having an elongated first blade portion connected at one end to one end of the handle and an elongated second blade portion extending along the length of the first blade portion. One end of the second blade portion defines an illumination input end to which a connector is coupled. The connector is shaped to optically couple the illumination input end to a source of illumination so that at least a portion of one of the first and second blade portions is illuminated.

  • Publication number: 20010001260
Abstract: A protective cover for protecting a lighting device from direct contact with contaminants or components which may interfere with proper operation thereof. The contaminant (e.g., blood, body tissue, dirt, oil, grease, paint, etc.) or other component (e.g., adhesive pad) can interfere with the desired internal reflection of the light propagating through a light transmitting member, by changeing the angle of reflection of the propagating light. The result is that optical energy is absorbed by the contaminant or component and converted to heat, thus causing the contaminant or component to quickly rise to an undesirable temperature. The present invention protects a lighting device from such interference, while maintaining its versatility.
