  • Publication number: 20170224063
Abstract: A clasp is configured to permanently interlock around a flexible strip of material and includes first and second interlocking members. Each interlocking member includes a plurality of hooks and a corresponding plurality of recesses, where the recesses of one interlocking member receive the hooks of the other interlocking member to secure a band within the clasp between the interlocking members. The recesses can be completely internal to the clasp to prevent external tampering. Each of the interlocking members can include various protrusions and ribs that compress and secure the band within the clasp, so as to prevent movement of the band between the interlocking members when interlocked.

  • Patent number: 8117777
Abstract: A bracelet that has two layers, one forming the outside of the bracelet and the other forming the inside of the bracelet. The layers have different properties. The bracelet has a head end and a tail. The layers are bonded to each other and there is at least a first portion of the band at the head end in which the first layer is bonded to the second layer by means of a contact adhesive and in which the second layer is a release liner with regard to the contact adhesive. The bracelet is formable into a loop by removing the second layer from the first layer in the first portion and attaching the exposed contact adhesive to the first layer in the tail. Also disclosed is a business form which contains a band that can be formed into the bracelet.

  • Patent number: 8091261
Abstract: Apparatus for forming a band into a persistent loop. The band incorporating the apparatus has a hole portion which contains a hole, a tongue portion which fits through the hole, and an adhesive attachment area on one or both of the hole and tongue portions. The band is made into a persistent loop by drawing the tongue portion through the hole and attaching the adhesive attachment area to the loop's outside surface. The size of the loop may be adjusted by varying the amount of the tongue portion which is drawn through the hole. A loop may be temporarily preformed by engaging a structure on the tongue portion with the hole. In embodiments in which the band is made of stiff material, the engaging structures may be the edges of the tongue portion and the edges of the hole. The disclosed embodiment of the apparatus is an identification band.

  • Publication number: 20100129503
Abstract: A “freezer to microwave oven” package (10) which can be heated in a microwave without consumer intervention. The package includes at least one venting arrangement present in a seal, the venting arrangement including a water compatible coating (28) that provides a vent from the interior of the package to the exterior, upon exposure of the coating to a fluid water source. The fluid water source (e.g., liquid water or vapor) solubilizes, dissolves or otherwise renders ineffective the coating, forming a fluid path from interior of the package to the exterior of package, thus allowing escape of pressure from the package.

  • Publication number: 20050208553
Abstract: The invention provides a method of inhibiting growth of a microsatellite instability (MSI)-positive tumor. The method is practiced by introducing into an MSI-positive tumor a nucleic acid molecule encoding a RIZ1 polypeptide and expressing the RIZ1 polypeptide in the tumor in an effective amount to inhibit growth of the tumor. Also provided is a method of determining the MSI status of a tumor. The method is practiced by determining in the tumor the number of adenosine (A) nucleotides in a poly(A) tract of a RIZ nucleic acid molecule in the tumor. An abnormal number of adenosine nucleotides in a RIZ poly(A) tract indicates that the tumor is MSI-positive.

  • Publication number: 20040237366
Abstract: Identification bracelets for use in locations such as hospitals that require that the identification bracelet be easy to apply, resistant to common solvents, difficult to remove, and printable by means of a standard office printer with high resolution print that is resistant to wear and to common solvents. The bracelet is made up of a strip of material that is resistant to common solvents and that has adhesive on a single end of the side of the strip opposite the printed side. The bracelet is made by wrapping the bracelet around the extremity of the person being identified and attaching the end with the adhesive to the printed side. Some versions include tabs on the end with the adhesive. The adhesive extends to the tabs and when the end with the adhesive has been attached to the printed side, the tabs are folded under and attached to the unprinted side.

  • Patent number: 5364570
Abstract: A lightweight ceramic material is provided, useful for example as thermal insulation, kiln furniture or for metallurgical applications.Accordingly, a lightweight fired ceramic material comprises a set porous material in the form of a freeze-gelled ceramic sol composition containing hollow microspheres bonded together in a ceramic matrix.A method of making a lightweight fired ceramic shaped product is also provided in which a freeze-gellable ceramic sol composition is formed containing hollow microspheres, the composition is placed in a tool (21) of high thermal conductivity, the tool is cooled to irreversibly gel the sol composition, the monolith so formed is demoulded and allowed to thaw and is then fired to form a product comprising the microspheres bonded in a ceramic matrix.
