  • Patent number: 8633028
Abstract: Methods for inducing systemic, non-specific and/or sequence specific immune responses in invertebrates, e.g., marine invertebrates such as mollusks, porifera, ctenophora, echinodermas, marine worms, cnideria and preferably crustaceans, by the administration of at least one dsRNA, that confers immunity against a pathogen, or modulates expression of gene that affects growth, reproduction, and general health or “robustness” are provided. Also provided are methods of identifying invertebrate genes, e.g., crustacean genes, the expression of which is involved in the induction of non-specific (systemic) immune responses against pathogens. Also disclosed are preferred delivery systems and methods for stably administering at least one dsRNA to a crustacean whereby the dsRNA is administered via injection, immersion, in a feed or nutrient medium or comprised in a microorganism, e.g., yeast or microalgae, that expresses said dsRNA and is ingestible by said crustacean, e.g., a shrimp.

  • Publication number: 20120178063
Abstract: A simple, low cost device to communicate important information about a change in state relative to someone's health or wellness, ie recovery from surgery or illness. This invention focuses on the delivery of such information in audio (or video) format, tailored to the language needs of the patient or caregiver, in a simple, intuitive device that the user can access any time to hear the appropriate message. In it's simplest embodiment, the device is a disposable VoiceCard with multiple buttons, each providing an important message for a different stage of a patient's journey (ie just after surgery, early recovery, full recovery). The VoiceCard can also be combined with a greeting card, either as a physical device or digital product, to “gift” valuable medical information in conjunction with well wishes.

  • Patent number: 8198219
Abstract: The use of solid materials based on synthetic polymers and/or biopolymers (A) in natural gas and mineral oil extraction technology. The solid materials are produced by solubilizing at least one synthetic polymer and/or biopolymer (A), or at least one synthetic polymer and/or biopolymer (A) and at least one additive (B), in at least one substantially anhydrous chaotropic liquid (C). The solution or dispersion (AC) or (ABC) is contacted with a liquid (D1) which is miscible with the chaotropic liquid (C), but in which at least the synthetic polymer and/or the biopolymer (A) are substantially insoluble, resulting in a phase (E). The chaotropic liquid (C) is removed from phase (E) to result in a gel (G), which is impregnated with a liquid (D2). The two liquids (D1) and (D2) are removed from the gel (G) by evaporating, producing a solid material based on synthetic polymer and/or biopolymer (A).

  • Patent number: 7917671
Abstract: A scalable port controller architecture supporting data streams of different speeds. In an embodiment, a port controller contains high speed receptor units and low speed receptor units, and a port routing logic connecting each external device (on corresponding port) to one of the receptors according to various registers. The port routing logic may connect an external device to one of the receptors, which determines the data rate at which data on a corresponding virtual connection from the external device is being received/sent. If the receptor does not have sufficient capacity (based on the data rate) to communicate with the external device, the connection is moved to other receptors, potentially in another control unit.

  • Publication number: 20100191787
Abstract: A sequential multiplier for multiplying a binary multiplier and a binary multiplicand to produce a final product. A first logic circuit generates a control signal based on the multiplier. A second logic circuit generates a partial product based on the control signal and the multiplicand. A full adder generates a partial sum and a partial carry in each of a sequence of cycles. In the first cycle the partial sum and the partial carry are both initialized to zero. In each said cycle the partial sum, the partial carry, and the partial product are added to generate a new partial sum and a new partial carry. After a last cycle, the partial sum is the final product.
