  • Patent number: 7779893
Abstract: A combination heat exchanger comprising of a heat exchange core having a plurality tubes, wherein the core having at least one core end; an end tank having two side walls and two end walls, two bulkheads the cavity defining a least a first chamber, a second chamber, and a third chamber, a perimeter edge defined by exterior edges of said side walls, exterior edges of said two end walls, and exterior edges of said two bulkheads; a header plate engaged between said end tank and said core end; and a gasket between said perimeter edge and contact surface of said header plate, wherein the compression ratio of the gasket is varied along the contact surfaces of the perimeter edge and contact surface of the end plate.

  • Publication number: 20080289794
Abstract: An air permeable protective camouflage screen is mounted in front of the air-intake side of a vehicle heat exchanger. The screen includes substantially horizontal and vertical intersecting walls, forming a plurality of apertures. The screen has at least two zones with apertures of different shapes for controlling air flow through the screen into the heat exchanger. The zones are oriented to allow relatively more air to pass into the first section of the heat exchanger having higher temperatures than the second section. The screen may include flaps mounted to the horizontal walls by living hinges, the flaps being disposed in the apertures when in a neutral closed position, being pivotable to allow air flow through the screen. The screen is substantially opaque when the flaps are in the neutral closed position, further camouflaging the heat exchanger, and the screen is made of non-corrosive material such as an organic polymeric material.

  • Patent number: 7320360
Abstract: A heat exchanger assembly includes hollow reinforcing members that define openings for receiving supports therein. An end cap is disposed in each open end of cylindrical header tanks and each of the header tanks includes a tubeless length (X) extending inwardly a predetermined distance from each end cap. An inlet and an outlet are disposed in a tubeless length (X). The ends of the reinforcing members extending over the tubeless lengths (X) of the header tanks which include a slot outside each end cap with a tab extending from each end of reinforcing members and into the adjacent slot. All of the components are brazed together in one operation.

  • Patent number: 6763679
Abstract: A canister is attached to a header tank and includes an upper inlet and a lower outlet. Before end cap is brazed to close the bottom of canister, a tube of desiccant material is installed into the canister by a standoff. The standoff includes a disk shaped base and narrow central post which is comparable in length to the height of the inlet above the lower end cap. This is followed by inserting a spur of a higher melting temperature into the canister into a position and extending radially from the post and into an interference fit with the interior wall of the canister that is tighter than the interference fit between the base and the canister.

  • Patent number: 6619380
Abstract: A heat exchanger (10) having a heat exchanger drain assembly (28) comprising a manifold (12) for storing fluid. A drain port (20) is integrally formed with the manifold (12) and is in selective fluid communication with the reservoir (36) for selectively draining the fluid from the manifold (12). A plug (32) is disposed within the drain port (20) for preventing fluid from draining from the manifold (12). The plug (32) is removable from the drain port ((20) for allowing fluid to drain from the manifold (12). A frangible wall (40) is formed between the drain port (20) and the reservoir (36) to close the drain port (20) and create a non-functional drain port (20), thereby preventing fluid communication between the drain port (20) and the reservoir (36). The frangible wall (40) is fracturable to provide the fluid communication between the drain port (20) and the reservoir (36) for draining the fluid from the tank (12).

  • Patent number: 6170287
Abstract: A condenser (10) with a return header tank (14) has a receiver or reservoir canister (22) physically attached along side the return header tank (14), and open thereto through a discrete upper inlet (20) and lower outlet (21). The bottom of canister (22) is closed by an end cap (34) that is, preferably, welded or brazed in place. Before end cap (34) is attached, a tube of desiccant material (24) is installed and located within canister (22) by a standoff (26) comprised of a tight fitting, notched, disk shaped base (28) and narrow central post (30) which is comparable in length to the height of the inlet (20) above the lower end cap (34). The tight fit allows the tube (24) to be inserted up into the canister (22), well away from the bottom of canister (22) and free of heat damage as the end cap (34) is attached. Later, in operation, the central post (30) keeps the tube (24) located clear of the inlet (20) and outlet (21).
