  • Publication number: 20090066639
Abstract: A media application for providing outputs (e.g., audio outputs) in response to inputs received from an input device is provided. The media application may connect input mechanisms of an input device with parameters of channel strips (e.g., which may define output sounds) using an intermediate screen object. The media application may first assign an input mechanism to a screen object, and separately map a screen object to a channel strip parameter. The media application may map a screen object to several channel strips simultaneously such that, based on the value of the screen object, the volume of each of the several channel strips changes. The media application may provide a graphical representation of available channel strips using layers. As the media application accesses a channel strip, the appearance of the portion of the layer associated with the channel strip may change.

  • Publication number: 20080002844
Abstract: Techniques described herein allow a user to create and modify a sound design in a user interface. For example, a user imports a sound file into the user interface, where the sound file is displayed graphically along a timeline. The user can then insert multiple control points along the timeline. The control points display the sound properties of the sound file at the selected points in time along the timeline. Accordingly, the user uses controls provided in the user interface to adjust and modify the sound properties displayed on a control point. The modifications the user makes to the sound properties are saved to the sound file.

  • Patent number: 7303883
Abstract: Detection of Plasmodium ssp. by analysis of extrachromosomal DNA. It has been found that the molecular composition, physical arrangements, and nucleotide sequences of the extrachromosomal plastid-like element and mitochondrial element are highly conserved in different Plasmodium ssp. The high degree of homology has been used to design genera-specific or species specific diagnostic assays with a low frequency of false negatives. Plastid and mitochondrial DNA sequences are disclosed. The use of the sequences is claimed for detection, prophylactic, and therapeutic treatment of Plasmodium ssp. infection in human or other animals.

  • Patent number: 7057714
Abstract: A method and system for measuring optical scattering characteristics includes coupling a continuous wave laser excitation signal to an optical fiber. Radiation backscattered by the optical fiber in response to the coupled excitation signal is detected to produce a backscattered radiation signal. The backscattered radiation signal is mixed with the excitation signal to produce a mixed signal. The mixed signal is filtered to reduce the magnitude of frequencies other than conjugate mixing frequencies relative to the conjugate mixing frequencies. The filtered signal is digitized and the magnitude of backscattered radiation from a specific portion of the fiber is calculated based on the digitized signal. The temperature of a specific portion of the fiber can be determined from the magnitude of the backscattered radiation.

  • Patent number: 6861219
Abstract: There is a tremendous need for high throughput gene expression technology which can efficiently and cheaply identify and accurately isolate different genes expressed between diseased and normal tissues for use in discovering new drugs. The present invention utilizes a combination of biomolecular chemistry methods to eliminate/degrade redundant sequences and fluorescence dye assay to identify these unique sequences from two cell or tissue populations. cDNA from normal or diseased cells or tissues are hybridized with the RNA of the complement normal or diseased cells or tissues. The hybridized cDNA/RNA is incubated with exonucleases, resulting in degradation of all but the single stranded RNA and DNA. RNA are then eliminated using RNase and the remaining DNA which are unique to the sample are amplified.

  • Publication number: 20040181670
Abstract: A system and method for disguising and de-identifying data is provided. Records are extracted from an input data set containing confidential information (e.g., a production database). One or more data transformation algorithms for disguising specific types of data, including first names, last names, company names, telephone numbers, addresses, social security numbers, and e-mail addresses, in addition to generic data, are applied to the records to disguise or “scrub” confidential information therefrom. The transformation algorithms retrieve substitute information from one or more lookup tables, or generate substitute information using in-memory manipulation rules, and produce output records containing the substitute information. The output records are structurally similar to the input records, contain no confidential information, and are stored in an output data set that can be utilized in less-secure (e.g., non-production) environments.

  • Patent number: 5490283
Abstract: An adapter system is used to interface a handheld scanner to the parallel printer port of a portable computer and includes a data buffer to receive serial video data from the handheld scanner and to convert the serial video data into parallel video data. A scanner resolution latch receives scanner controller signals from the handheld scanner and provides scanning resolution data to a printer control and status bus of the printer port. A memory unit is used to store the parallel video data from the data buffer and to provide the parallel video data to the printer control and status bus. A memory controller receives the scanner controller signals and generates write signals to the memory unit so as to enable the memory unit to store the parallel video data therein. The memory controller further generates an interrupt signal at the printer control and status bus so as to inform the computer that video data is available when a predetermined quantity of the parallel video data has been stored in the memory unit.
