  • Patent number: 6124403
Abstract: Polymer compositions containing a mixture of an elastomer and a fluoropolymer can be made by diffusing fluorinated olefins and free radical initiators in preferably swollen elastomers and polymerizing the fluorinated olefins. The resulting compositions have useful properties, such as reduced sliding friction, which makes them useful for seals in contact with moving surfaces, and for other uses.

  • Patent number: 6021252
Abstract: An arrangement is disclosed for controlling fan motors in fan-powered terminal units which permit the air flow of the terminal units to be factory preset and reset using a voltmeter. The fan motor is responsive to the pulse width of pulses of a pulse width modulated signal to provide an air flow which is proportional to the pulse width. By adjusting the pulse width, the air flow may be set as desired. A pulse width modulated signal having pulses with a set amplitude and frequency is generated. The dc voltage of the pulse width modulated signal is measured using a voltmeter. As the pulses have a set amplitude and frequency, the pulse width of the pulses may be adjusted by controlling the dc voltage of the pulse width modulated signal. The fan motor is programmed to deliver the set air flow over a range of static pressures.

  • Patent number: 5967931
Abstract: An automatic transmissions for an automotive vehicle includes a variator of the traction drive type, the variator including two input discs, two output discs, and rollers driveably engaged with the discs and adapted to vary continuously the ratio of the speeds of the output discs and input discs. Each of two planetary gearsets includes a carrier driven by an engine and driveably connected to an input disc, a sun gear driven by an output disc, and a sun gear connected to one of two driveshafts, which drive the front and rear wheels, respectively, of a motor vehicle. Independent angular variation of the rollers causes the variator to drive the forward drive sun gear and rear drive sun gear at different, variable speeds.

  • Patent number: 5961415
Abstract: An automatic transmission for an automotive vehicle includes a traction drive variator having an input disc, an output disc, and rollers driveably engaged with the discs and adapted to vary continuously the ratio of the speeds of the output disc and input disc. The input disc is reversed and overdriven by a gearset whose ring gear is connected to an input shaft; carrier is held permanently; and sun gear drives the input disc. A planetary gear unit driven by the output disc produces a speed reduction in response to alternate engagement of a forward drive brake and reverse drive brake.

  • Patent number: 5888424
Abstract: Fluoroplastics become identifiable as to source by incorporating 1 to 450 ppm of inorganic phosphor into the fluoroplastic which does not degrade the fluoroplastic upon processing at a temperature of 300.degree. C. and does not discolor the fluoroplastic but does emit radiation which is characteristic of the phosphor when the fluoroplastic is exposed to excitation radiation.

  • Patent number: 5762580
Abstract: A rotary switch, used to select the operating range of an automatic transmission, controls solenoid-operated valves corresponding to the selected range to open and close a connection between a range valve assembly and a control pressure source. A forward range selection electric circuit includes a forward range high side driver, a solenoid-operated control valve, the rotary switch, a power source, and a current monitor. There is a similar circuit for the reverse range. A forward range valve and reverse range valve respond to control pressure produced by the circuit to open a fluid pressure source to a line that is pressurized to produce forward drive, a second position opens a connection between the fluid pressure source and a line that is pressurized to produce reverse drive and vents those lines to sump.

  • Patent number: 5639837
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a process in which fluorine containing olefins are polymerized using an initiation system which is a combination of a fluoroaliphatic sulfinate or sulfinic acid and chlorate, bromate or hypochlorite ions. The resulting polymer contains fewer deleterious end groups and is more stable and/or easier to process. The polymers produced are useful as thermoplastics and elastomers.

  • Patent number: 4084925
Abstract: The oil well pump includes upper and lower seals at the upper and lower end portions of a plunger reciprocable within the pump barrel. Passages are provided in the wall of the plunger for introducing a lubricating fluid in the annular space between the outer wall of the plunger and the inner wall of the barrel between the upper and lower seals. These passages are subsequently sealingly closed to trap the lubricating fluid in the annular volume and thereby provide lubrication for the pump.
