  • Patent number: 4002176
Abstract: Thermal degradation of tobacco by heating at above 100.degree., suitably 100.degree.-300.degree. C in presence of a catalyst until the weight of the residue is less than 90% of the weight of the original tobacco improves the smoke-flavor, although similar heating in absence of catalyst fails to produce this effect. The degraded tobacco material is an improved material suitable for smoking mixtures wherein the degraded tobacco material possesses an enhanced tobacco flavor as compared to untreated tobacco.
