The translucent oral care composition can comprise one or more zinc and/or stannous ion source(s) in amounts effective to provide at least 28% soluble zinc and/or stannous as a fraction of the total zinc and/or stannous ion concentration in the composition; an abrasive (e.g., silica), wherein the abrasive has a refractive index of approximately 1.45 as measured in a 4% silica, 90% sorbitol/water solution; and an orally acceptable vehicle.
