  • Patent number: 5456336
Abstract: A wheel brake assembly for shopping carts is characterized by a hub adapted for rotation about an axis, a coil spring coaxially mounted on the hub, and a pair of annular disks coaxially mounted on the spring. One of the disks is stationary and has one end of the spring connected therewith. The other disk is rotatable and has the other end of the spring connected therewith. Rotation of the rotatable disk in one direction to a braking position draws the spring ends together so that the coil spring constricts on the hub to prevent rotation of the hub about the axis. Rotation of the rotatable disk in the other direction to a release position pushes the spring ends apart to relax the coil spring and allow the hub to rotate.

  • Patent number: 4271718
Abstract: A brake cable operating lever is disclosed including a device for adjusting the cable tension which is produced when the operating lever is in the brake-on position, characterized in that the rotary tension adjusting screw (36) which extends axially of the operating lever includes intermediate its ends an annular collar portion (36a) that is rotatably supported by an abutment shoulder (20f) on the operating lever (20), whereby the apparatus remains operable even if the manual operating knob (38) were to be removed from the screw member. An internal friction producing device (40) is provided for restricting rotation of the screw member about its axis.

  • Patent number: 4178491
Abstract: A switch actuator of the time-delay type is disclosed for operating an electrical switch having an ON-OFF lever, including a mounting plate upon which is secured a cylinder closed at one end and open at the other end to the atmosphere. A piston is slidably disposed within the cylinder and includes a one-way seal member which defines at the closed end of the cylinder a substantially fluid-tight chamber. The piston, which is normally spring-biased toward the open end of the cylinder, is displaceable against the force of the spring toward a first position adjacent the closed end of the cylinder, thereby to force the fluid quickly out of the sealed chamber past the one-way seal. An operating member movably connected with the switch plate pivots the switch lever to the ON position when the piston is in the first position.

  • Patent number: 4090731
Abstract: Heavy duty locking apparatus is disclosed for locking together a pair of relatively movable members, such as the tilt cab and chassis components of a motor vehicle, wherein a movable locking pin is employed for releasably connecting the blade and housing elements which are respectively secured to said relatively movable members. In one form of the invention, the locking pin is laterally projected into the corresponding opening in the blade element but does not pass completely through the opening. Also, in the one form, the opening or cavity in the housing element is of substantial size in order to present an enlarged target area for entry of the blade element during the locking operation. A second form of the invention is similar to the first form in the above respects and includes a modification of the blade element and the housing part to improve the supporting relationship between these elements during the locking operation.

  • Patent number: 4022509
Abstract: An improved actuator is disclosed for operating the locking pin of a tilt cab locking device to the released position against the biasing force of a spring that normally biases the locking pin toward a locked position relative to blade and blade housing members secured to the vehicle chassis and to the tilt cab, respectively. The invention is characterized in that the actuator includes a unitary housing having an outer tubular portion secured at one end to a rigid leg of the blade housing about the locking opening, a first transverse wall closing the other end of the outer tubular portion and containing a first opening, an inner tubular portion arranged in concentrically spaced relation within the outer tubular portion and secured at one end with said first transverse wall about said first opening, and a second transverse wall closing the other end of the inner tubular portion.
